In KBS2's 'Study and Play,' 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' creator Lee Nak-jun experienced the 'humiliation of 1 point' during an elementary quiz, delivering a twist of laughter.
In the 4th episode of KBS2's entertainment program 'Study and Play,' which aired on 21st, the integrated generation trio of hosts Kang Ho-dong, Kim Ho-young, and Lee Soo-yeon joined former major leaguer Kim Byung-hyun and his sons Kim Tae-yoon (5th grade) and Kim Joo-sung (2nd grade), taekwondo Olympic gold medalist Lee Dae-hoon and his son Lee Ye-chan (1st grade), actor Kim Jung-tae and his son Kim Si-hyun (6th grade), actor Shin Hyun-jun and his sons Shin Min-jun (3rd grade) and Shin Ye-jun (1st grade), broadcaster Hyun-young and her son Choi Tae-hyuk (2nd grade), medical writer and web novel author Lee Nak-jun with his daughter Lee Ha-el (5th grade) and son Lee Ha-eon (3rd grade), comedian Kim Mi-rye and her daughter Jeong Mo-ah (5th grade), all of whom participated in a perspective-switching quiz together, forming a total of seven family teams.
The broadcast featured the first ever top student dad on 'Study and Play,' creating high expectations for a quiz competition that put fathers' pride on the line. Current professor dad Shin Hyun-jun opened with a preemptive remark to doctor dad Lee Nak-jun, saying, 'I hope to finish around 4th for my pride,' while Lee Nak-jun expressed his concern, noting, 'I checked my knowledge, but I have forgotten too much.' Observing this, Hyun-young and Kim Byung-hyun made the self-deprecating remarks, 'We cannot check,' and 'We have nothing to check,' turning the scene into a sea of laughter. Additionally, comedian Kim Mi-rye praised her daughter Jeong Mo-ah's beauty, calling herself a 'fool,' to which Jeong Mo-ah firmly responded with 'No' to every compliment her mother made, illustrating the relatable dynamic between the mother and daughter.
After all participants answered incorrectly on the first 6th-grade dictation problem, Lee Nak-jun's daughter Lee Ha-el made a sharp comment, remarking, 'This is quite a sight,' causing her father to sweat. The question about Lee Soon-shin, which had turned the studio upside down the previous week with a 'three consecutive identical person quiz,' reappeared, heating up the atmosphere. Kim Byung-hyun cheerfully coined the term 'Cheerful Battle,' making his son Kim Tae-yoon lower his head. Shin Hyun-jun also confidently provided the wrong answer 'Salsu Battle,' but his children Shin Min-jun and Shin Ye-jun rallied to preserve their father's dignity, saying, 'At least you got the battle part right! Good job.'
Amidst this, Shin Hyun-jun and Lee Nak-jun shared their personal thoughts on educational philosophy that captivated attention. Lee Nak-jun commented on the increasingly common practice of advanced learning among elementary students, stating, 'I think it's better not to do it. One semester is enough,' which drew the attention of parents. In response, Shin Hyun-jun noted, 'I don't force studying. I teach the importance of manners,' revealing his education philosophy centered around etiquette. This prompted his second child Shin Ye-jun to disclose, 'Dad is well-mannered, but I've never seen him clean the house,' to which the eldest Shin Min-jun added, 'But he does clean my room,' providing comic relief.
Moreover, the children's clever (?) guesses provided unexpected humor. Hyun-young's son Choi Tae-hyuk, during a special music class, suggested about the lyrics of 'Pretty Bear,' 'I think all the words that fill in the blanks are good ones,' which elicited a warm smile. Similarly, Lee Dae-hoon's son Lee Ye-chan responded playfully to the question about 'how not to get bitten by a snake' in the 2nd-grade integrated subject quiz, saying, 'You can just catch it and raise it!' which evoked a 'parental smile.'
Meanwhile, in that day's quiz, the unchanging physical education top student Lee Dae-hoon scored 3 points, securing a third consecutive victory. When 'top student dad' Lee Nak-jun concluded with a score of 1 point, he mentioned, 'It was harder than I thought,' leading his son Lee Ha-eon to chime in, 'That's pathetic,' delivering a spicy remark that induced laughter till the end. The struggles with elementary problems that perplexed even highly educated fathers generated great laughter, and the genuine efforts of parents trying to communicate sincerely with their children blended with the innocent reactions of the kids, offering delightful laughs and warm touching moments.
