Artist and producer Jung Gi-go has been appointed as the representative of Magic Strawberry Sound.
Magic Strawberry Sound announced on the 21st that "Jung Gi-go has recently been appointed as the new representative who will lead the overall operation of the label and has been recruited as an affiliated artist."
The company added that "Jung Gi-go was described as someone who can lead with high understanding of artists and the label's business capabilities based on musical expertise, and plans to pursue rebranding to strengthen the label's competitiveness."
Jung Gi-go's appointment as representative has garnered attention as an unprecedented attempt within the entertainment industry. While examples of representative appointments through company establishment can often be found, it is rare to appoint a singer as a professional manager in an entertainment company that has already been established for more than 10 years and has proven its track record.
With Magic Strawberry Sound recently focusing on recruiting new artists, the appointment of Jung Gi-go as representative can also be seen as a strategic choice to expand the label's spectrum.
In fact, Magic Strawberry Sound signed various genres of artists last year, including the alternative-pop duo Marrakech, boundary-pushing artist Andayang, new acoustic powerhouse Yebit, and DJ and producer Kona. This year, they have also recruited musician Samui, who shares his story in various forms including rock, pop, and ballads.
Jung Gi-go, who debuted in the music scene in 2002, is considered a leading musician in the R&B scene. His single 'BLIND,' released in 2011, was selected as the winner in the 'Best R&B & Soul' category at the 9th Korean Music Awards, and the duet song 'Some (Feat. Lil Boy of Geeks)' released in 2014 with SISTAR's Soyou achieved a massive hit, winning two awards for 'Song of the Year' and 'Best Pop' at the 12th Korean Music Awards.
Jung Gi-go has not limited himself to being an R&B musician; he released a jazz album in 2018 and has been active as a producer, continuously expanding his sphere of influence by establishing SEL Records in 2021. In particular, as the leader of SEL, Jung Gi-go has gone beyond being a mere music label, leading the branding of SEL and has showcased various content specialized in K-POP/K-RNB, including compilation albums. Based on his practical experience, Jung Gi-go is expected to be active in various capacities as the representative of Magic Strawberry Sound and as an affiliated artist.
Currently, Magic Strawberry Sound, led by new representative Jung Gi-go, includes artists with distinct musical identities such as Song So-hee, Marrakech, Andayang, Yebit, Kona, and Samui.
