Actress Gong Hyo-jin shared her honest thoughts on the ending of "When the Stars Gossip," her comeback project after six years.
On the 20th, Gong Hyo-jin uploaded a new video titled "It's a late feeling, but it's something I wanted to talk about" on her personal YouTube channel "For Now, Gong Hyo-jin."
That day, Gong Hyo-jin opened up, saying, "Since the drama started, I began filming movies. So I think I was focused on that side (film). So when I'm filming something new, I can't read a new script, it's hard to manage both."
She continued, "In any case, all of this was a new process for the drama. It was pre-produced to this extent. There were things that had to be done two years into post-production, and the content was difficult in various ways. It probably wasn't easy to understand when viewing it."
Gong Hyo-jin said, "From the beginning, the writer wanted to tell a story about creating life. The question is whether scientists can help people reproduce in zero gravity, and I went in as a researcher on that."
As the production team listened, one said, "Isn't it premature for Korean dramas to tackle space?" To this, Gong Hyo-jin replied, "New things always have their supporters and detractors. Whether it works depends on the efforts of those in front, but no one acknowledges it."
However, Gong Hyo-jin candidly shared her thoughts on Eve dying after childbirth in the final episode, saying, "When the main character dies in the ending, opinions are always divided. My mom also found it difficult, asking, 'Will it be more interesting next week?' At that point, I thought adults would have trouble digesting it."
Additionally, Gong Hyo-jin expressed the difficulties of acting in zero gravity, saying, "Except for the 16th episode, it was all about space. It took so long to film zero gravity, and filming one episode took over two months. Every day I went in and filmed for 15 hours on wires, screaming 'Please let me down now.' My blood circulation was terrible."
At the same time, she noted, "It's amazing that we filmed it for a year, and by the second month of filming, I was worried, 'Can this really go on air?' The actors were just grateful that the drama came out."
Meanwhile, "When the Stars Gossip," starring Gong Hyo-jin, garnered attention with an investment of over 500 billion won, but faced viewer backlash from the beginning due to intimate scenes and a complex storyline. In particular, the finale received significant criticism as it depicted Eve Kim (played by Gong Hyo-jin) dying after childbirth.
