A 50-year-old man received a suspended prison sentence for defaming singer Kim Da-hyun (16) online.
On the 16th, the 6th Criminal Division of the Daegu District Court (Director General Yoo Sung-hyun) sentenced Mr. A to four months in prison, suspended for two years, on charges of insult.
Mr. A is accused of posting insulting comments about Kim Da-hyun a total of 73 times and about her father, Kim Bong-gon, a total of 67 times on the broadcasting station's online viewer bulletin board from July 2023 for four months.
The court stated, "It appears that the victims, especially the young victim Kim Da-hyun, likely suffered a degree of mental pain that is not easily tolerated, which increases the likelihood of condemnation."
Kim Kyung-eun, the lead attorney from the law firm Inui representing Kim Da-hyun, noted, "The personality rights of public figures must also be respected. The consequences of baseless malicious posts targeting young entertainers and their families are particularly severe," and added, "Freedom of expression should not harm the reputation of others, and I hope this ruling leads to the disappearance of posts that hurt specific entertainers."
