The police investigation team for the YouTuber Jji-yang, who filed a stalking complaint against Kim Se-eui, the representative of the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon), has been reassigned.
On the 21st, a representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated during a regular press conference held at the Seocho-gu Naeja-dong office, "While we cannot comment on the attitude of Jji-yang's side as a victim, we regret that some controversies have arisen between the two parties and that there was some misunderstanding."
He added, "Because there were concerns about the fairness of the investigation, we reassigned the investigation team and changed the investigators to comprehensively evaluate the incident. I understand that we communicated with Jji-yang's side and that they accepted this." Initially, the defamation case was being investigated by the Investigation Division 2, while the stalking, intimidation, and coercion cases were being handled by the Criminal Division 1.
Park Hyun-soo, the acting chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, noted, "There are four cases related to Jji-yang at the Gangnam Police Station. One case has been newly requested for supplementary investigation by the prosecution." He mentioned, "Overall, the cases have been reassigned. This is because Jji-yang's side is raising concerns about the fairness of the investigation, and we also need to ensure the effectiveness of the investigation."
He also stated, "The cases that Jji-yang filed a complaint about have been reassigned to the Criminal Division 2 at the Gangnam Police Station," adding, "Regarding the cases against Jji-yang, they will be investigated by the Investigation Division 2 at the Gangnam Police Station, and the investigators have also been changed. We will conduct a fair and swift investigation."
Previously, on the 16th, Jji-yang appeared at the Gangnam Police Station in connection with the complaint of intimidation and coercion against the representative Kim Se-eui of Gaseyeon.
While appearing at the police station, Jji-yang said, "(Kim Se-eui) has been providing false facts and harassing those around since July of last year, and it was difficult to hear that no action was taken. I will explain this part sufficiently and will discuss it to achieve a better outcome," adding, "It was hard for me to be harassed, but I couldn't tolerate it when it affected those around me. To prevent others from experiencing what I have, I will sincerely participate in the investigation today."
According to the police, on July 30 of last year, Kim Se-eui was sued for exposing Jji-yang's tax evasion and other personal issues through his YouTube channel, and for repeatedly posting pictures and articles of Jji-yang to demand clarification. However, the police decided to dismiss the allegations of violations of the Act on the Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, intimidation, and other charges based on the fact that Jji-yang submitted a letter of withdrawal of complaint on February 12.
Jji-yang's side filed an objection to the police's decision not to proceed, and the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office accepted this and requested the police to conduct a supplementary investigation of the case.
In relation to this, Jji-yang, who was seeking to attend the police investigation, drew curiosity by refusing to be questioned only 30 minutes into the investigation and leaving the police station.
Jji-yang's legal representative explained, "It seemed that the police did not regard us as victims at all, and there seemed to be no intention of providing protection. Moreover, because there were situations that could raise questions about whether the investigation was fair, we intend to reconsider the police investigation and, if necessary, will seek to be questioned again."
