Shin Si A has returned with a 180-degree different face through tvN's 'Resident Playbook.'
Leaving behind the sharp superpowers and cold expression from the movie 'The Witch 2,' this time she transforms into the meticulous yet bumbling first-year obstetrics and gynecology resident 'Pyo Nam-kyung,' showcasing a friendly and vivid charm.
The character Pyo Nam-kyung, played by Shin Si A, is a type of person who appears strong on the outside but is gentle on the inside. She is a resident who is sharp and assertive at first glance. However, she also has emotional ups and downs, and at times she can be careless, evoking a sense of human empathy. Shin Si A captures the complex nature of Pyo Nam-kyung without exaggeration, delivering a natural performance that elicits admiration with remarks like, 'That actor is talented.'
The scene where Pyo Nam-kyung shows off her chemistry with Oh Yi-young (played by Go Youn-jung) on her first day at Yulje Medical Center was impressive, but the episode where Um Jae-il (played by Kang Yoo-seok) mistakes patient Yeom Mi-so for a mother highlighted Shin Si A's acting ability even more.
As the primary physician was replaced from Um Jae-il to Pyo Nam-kyung, Pyo Nam-kyung finds herself in a grueling routine that includes a lot of tasks and meeting the demanding needs of the patient Yeom Mi-so. Shin Si A realistically portrays Pyo Nam-kyung getting exhausted amidst the growing workload and the repeating tedious daily life.
In particular, when she was overwhelmed with anxiety thinking that patient Yeom Mi-so had died, and then shed tears of relief after confirming that she was alive while performing the dressing, the scene powerfully resonated with the viewers, as she expressed the flow of emotion delicately and persuasively.
Unlike the intense image shown in her previous work, Shin Si A, who has settled into the home theater with her emotional and relatable performance as a resident in this project, is garnering high expectations from viewers about what kind of emotional changes and growth she will exhibit in the future.
