DJ DOC's Lee Ha-neul has been referred to the prosecution on charges of defamation against a representative of an entertainment agency.
According to police on the 18th, the Seoul Mapo Police Station stated that Lee Ha-neul was sent to the prosecution without detention for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act on the 7th.
Lee Ha-neul is reported to be facing charges of spreading false information about singer Ju B Train, who is engaged in a legal dispute with him, and the representative of his agency BASS Studio through YouTube.
Previously, Lee Ha-neul and Ju B Train have been engaged in a truth battle over wrongful termination and drug allegations since June of last year. At that time, the representative of Ju B Train's agency BASS Studio stated that they had filed a complaint against Lee Ha-neul for defamation by disseminating false information.
The representative of BASS Studio claimed that they had written an employment contract with Ju B Train and Lee Ha-neul's agency Funkytown to work for six months, but they were terminated after hearing from 'industry insiders' that Ju B Train was 'habitually smoking marijuana' with two months left in the contract period.
In response, Lee Ha-neul's agency Funkytown stated, "Ju B Train and this representative were fired for several reasons, including unsatisfactory work ethic at Funkytown," adding, "We have filed a criminal complaint against the two workers with the Mapo Police Station for fraud, embezzlement, destruction of electronic records, obstruction of business, and obstruction of business by fraud, and the investigation is currently ongoing. Furthermore, additional issues have been identified, and we are conducting a legal review and will take legal action as soon as they are confirmed."
The representative of BASS Studio also directly shared the news of Lee Ha-neul's referral to the prosecution on his social media on the 16th.
He noted, "Singer Lee Ha-neul created and indiscriminately spread the false information that I, a non-smoker, was a 'habitual drug offender' through industry insiders and social media to shift his criminal charges onto someone else, and ultimately, all of Lee Ha-neul's criminal charges have been acknowledged and sent to the prosecution."
He continued, "The fraud and embezzlement charges Lee Ha-neul claimed against me have all been clearly concluded with the prosecution's dismissal of suspicion. However, this time he has disseminated another mentally unstable falsehood, claiming I am a minor sexual offender, and today I received a notification regarding an investigation result that this is also recognized as a criminal charge. Currently, the number of cases acknowledging Lee Ha-neul's criminal charges is up to 4-5, and a combined investigation is underway."
In response, Lee Ha-neul stated through a media outlet that he plans to file a counterclaim.
