The main actors of 'Haunted Palace,' Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon, showcased their close friendship chemistry.
On the 17th, a press conference for the new Friday-Saturday drama 'Haunted Palace' was held at SBS Mokdong. The event was hosted by Park Kyung-rim, and attendees included director Yoon Sung-sik, actors Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon.
Set to air on April 18 (Friday) as a follow-up to 'Buried Hearts,' the new SBS drama 'Haunted Palace' (scripted by Yoon Soo-jung/directed by Yoon Sung-sik) features a shaman, Yeori, who rejects her fate as a medium, and the ill-fated Imugi, Gang-cheol, who is trapped in the body of Yeori's first love, Yoon-gap, along with the vengeful eight-tailed fox.
Yook Sung-jae plays Yoon-gap, a man possessed by the evil spirit, Gang-cheol, who originates from a mixed-blood background, and the evil spirit Imugi, Gang-cheol, who is trapped in Yoon-gap's body.
In particular, Yook Sung-jae, who boasts a long-standing friendship with Kim Ji-yeon, conveyed their chemistry, as she plays the character Yeori, a shaman and the master of glasses.
Yook Sung-jae reflected, "At first, since both of us are in the romance genre, I was worried about whether I could film a romance with my friend of 16 years. However, not having to be cautious around each other on set turned out to be an advantage. We could directly point out each other's shortcomings and help each other. Since there were no barriers in our communication, it seems we created synergy from that."
In response to the question, "Did you discover anything you didn't know about each other while filming?", Yook Sung-jae said, "I used to be quite whiny about how hard it was when I saw Ji-yeon back in the day," to which Kim Ji-yeon instantly replied, "That's not true," eliciting laughter.
Yook Sung-jae continued, "However, while shooting the drama, I think I became more whiny. She did really well quietly, and she concentrated well on her character Yeori. It was surprisingly professional, and it was impressive to see. Such a side of my friend?"
Kim Ji-yeon also responded, "I also have something that came to mind. What surprised me the most was that we had never seen each other work before and we didn't reach out to each other much. Then when we worked together on set, it was my first time in a fantasy project, which had its difficulties, but since Sung-jae is a professional actor, it was impressive. I thought I should learn from him a lot."
