Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress famous for the popular American drama "Gossip Girl," passed away suddenly at the age of 39, and the cause has been revealed.
The New York City Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to Page Six on the 16th (local time) that Trachtenberg died due to complications from diabetes.
Her cause of death has been determined to be natural causes.
The deceased was found dead at her home in New York City on Feb. 26 from a heart attack, at the age of 39. The person who discovered the body was her mother. According to acquaintances, the deceased underwent a kidney transplant surgery last year.
Page Six reported that she appeared "to be in very poor condition" while dining with friends at the Italian restaurant Sartianos a week before she passed away. At that time, Trachtenberg looked frail and had difficulty coming down the stairs. In fact, it has been revealed that she was experiencing severe physical and mental pain before she passed away.
A photo shared on Instagram in January 2024 showed her looking too thin and gaunt, raising concerns about her health.
Additionally, she told friends she was struggling and, notably, a friend told People that she had a really emotionally challenging year prior to her death. One close acquaintance noted, "She was really, really sick and opened up to those around her about how much she was struggling. She looked pale, weak, and very thin."
Previously, police had stated that there were no suspicions of foul play in her death. However, the Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.
Trachtenberg, a former child actress, is well known for playing Dawn Summers, sister of Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), in the American drama "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" from 2000 to 2003. She gained significant popularity for her role as Georgina Sparks, "the queen bee of the Upper East Side," in "Gossip Girl," which aired from 2008 to 2012, starring Blake Lively. In 2023, she appeared in two episodes of the second (final) season of HBO Max's "Gossip Girl" reboot. She also made appearances in films such as "EuroTrip" (2004), "Ice Princess" (2005), "17 Again" (2009), and "Black Christmas" (2006).
