The star math instructor Jeong Seung Je was embroiled in controversy over comments he made to DJ Wendy during a radio broadcast.
Jeong Seung Je appeared on SBS Radio Power FM's "Wendy's Young Street" on 15th with comedian Jeong Hyung Don. This was to promote the song "LSFT RIGHT," released last month under the group name XY.
On that day, Jeong Hyung Don told Wendy, whom he hadn't seen in a while, "It's been a while, and you seem very mature," and Jeong Seung Je chimed in, "You have an announcer-like feel." To this, Wendy noted, "I think it's because I'm doing DJing."
Jeong Hyung Don was curious about how long Wendy had been a DJ, to which she replied, "I originally did it and then returned. Adding it all together, it's about 2 and a half to 3 years." In response to Wendy's answer, Jeong Hyung Don asked, "Why did you take a break? Was the rate not matching? Did they adjust it this time? That could happen," and mentioned, "I heard you had a big fight with the producer."
Wendy quickly smiled and said, "That's not it; I really love radio, so I came back," adding, "Back then, I attempted a musical, but I didn't want to miss this (radio). I love connecting with the listeners."
In response, Jeong Seung Je said, "It seems like it didn't work out well for you," which embarrassed Wendy. Jeong Hyung Don joked, "Did I call you for no reason?" and flustered, Wendy replied quickly, "No, now I have to balance both. I trust that I can manage both."
Wendy then changed the subject, saying, "Before you arrived, I was cold and had a hot pack on, but after you arrived, I'm hot and wondering if I should wear a sleeveless top. It's hot." Seeing Wendy flustered, Jeong Hyung Don and Jeong Seung Je found it amusing and laughed.
After the broadcast, an online community engaged in heated discussions over Jeong Seung Je's comments. The controversy stemmed from him making remarks that crossed the line regarding Wendy's musical career. Critics noted his comments were rude enough to visibly embarrass the person involved to dismiss them as mere jokes. Conversely, some interpreted it as a "joke" meant for the fun of radio, similar to Jeong Hyung Don.
