A group of individuals who threatened to distribute private photos after acquiring a famous singer's cellphone and attempted to extort 500 million won has been indicted.
According to legal circles on 16th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office, Criminal Division 7 (Director General Kwon Seong-hee), indicted individual A on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Violences, including Joint Blackmail on the 11th.
Individual A is accused of having accidentally obtained a cellphone previously used by a famous singer last month and demanded 500 million won in cash, threatening to distribute personal information and private photos contained in the cellphone, along with two accomplices.
They are known to have actually extorted around 100 million won.
Police, upon receiving a report from the singer's agency, arrested individual A on the 17th of last month in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and the prosecution indicted A after further investigation. Accomplice B, who was already in custody for another case, was also brought to trial.
The prosecution is reported to have requested the police to conduct supplementary investigations on another accomplice, stating that confirmation of the facts is necessary.
