'New Recruit' has changed the ultimate villain.
The episodes 3 and 4 of the Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit' (directed by Min Jin-ki and Jo Je-wook, written by Yoon Gi-young and Kang Go-eun, based on the work by Jang Bbijju, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by A2Z Entertainment and Story Island), which aired on the 14th and 15th, depicted Seong Yoon-mo (played by Kim Hyun-kyu), who was reborn with the power of religion, and the DAEWON members surrounding him. Episode 4 recorded a viewership rating of 2.5% nationwide and 2.9% in the metropolitan area, showing a positive response with upward momentum. According to the results released by the official platform FUNdex of Good Data Corporation, it ranked first in the TV integrated sector in the second week of April, demonstrating its popularity.
On that day, the DAEWON members of the first living quarters went on a mission of righteous theft for Moon Bit-na-ri (played by Kim Yo-han), who had only one pair of underwear. Moon Bit-na-ri shed tears of joy, seemingly touched by the kindness of her squad members, which she felt for the first time. Meanwhile, the cold treatment from the DAEWON members towards Seong Yoon-mo continued. However, when the company commander asked if he was doing well, Seong Yoon-mo unexpectedly replied, 'Actually, they aren't particularly nice to me. But they don't mistreat me either. They treat me the same as the other soldiers,' concealing the fact that he had been excluded from the ranks.
The unusual behavior of Seong Yoon-mo continued. While attending a weekend religious event at a church, he suddenly burst into tears while listening to hymns. Furthermore, he even displayed fervent prayer, acting as if he truly had repented, diligently attending to even minor tasks, which left everyone confused.
Among them, the one with the most complicated feelings was Corporal Kim Sang-hoon (played by Lee Chung-goo). He despised Seong Yoon-mo more than anyone, but when he saw Seong Yoon-mo throw himself to save him from being crushed by equipment, he found himself in a dilemma. He tried to put aside his troubled feelings and sharply retorted, 'Do you think anything will change if you do that? I've been putting up with you every time I see you. Don't think about being forgiven. I have no intention of forgiving you.' The one who moved Kim Sang-hoon's heart was the cautious request from Kim Dong-woo (played by Jang Seong-beom), who started by saying, 'I know better than anyone that granting forgiveness isn't easy.' He asked Kim Sang-hoon to give Seong Yoon-mo another chance. Since he had previously forgiven Kang Chan-seok (played by Lee Jong-hyeon), who had bullied him, Kim Sang-hoon felt the sincerity behind the request. After much thought, he invited Seong Yoon-mo to have ramen together, which thawed the frozen atmosphere of the first living quarters.
Meanwhile, at the same time, Park Min-seok and Choi Il-goo (played by Nam Tae-woo) were out for mobilization training. Choi Il-goo faced an unwelcome situation there. It was that those who had bullied him during his time as a private were attending as reservists. Seeing them call those nightmarish memories 'recollections,' Choi Il-goo felt his trauma resurfacing. During that time, the one who supported him was Shim Jin-woo (played by Cha Young-nam), who had looked after him during those bullying times. Choi Il-goo sharing his past memories with him attracted attention, revealing his hidden struggles as a senior private.
On that day, Sergeant Park Min-joo (played by Lee Su-ji), who attended the mobilization training as an instructor, also showcased a strong performance. In a mock battle against the reservists, her ability to eliminate everyone on her own was indeed impressive. Meanwhile, her whispering 'You're cute' to Im Seong-min (played by Nam Min-woo), the deputy commander of the DAEWON squad, hinted at an unexpected romantic subplot, raising anticipation for future developments.
