(Continued from interview ③) Actor Yoo Hae-jin from the movie 'YADANG: The Snitch' cited 'running' as his secret to management.
Yoo Hae-jin conducted the interview on the morning of the 15th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. He discussed the film 'YADANG: The Snitch' (director Hwang Byeong-guk, provided/distributed by Plus M Entertainment, produced by HYBE Media Corp) with domestic reporters.
'YADANG: The Snitch' is a crime action film where a broker designing Korea's drug scene, a prosecutor aiming to rise to a higher position, and a detective who bets everything on eradicating drug crimes intertwine with different objectives. In this film, Yoo Hae-jin plays the ambitious prosecutor Koo Kwan-hee.
To promote the film, Yoo Hae-jin appeared on the YouTube content 'I will eat' hosted by singer Sung Si-kyung, stating, "I looked at my health check results from 10 years ago, and they were the same as now," drawing attention.
In this context, Yoo Hae-jin noted, "Actually, it was my health check results from 16 to 17 years ago that surprised me. Some detailed figures were worse. However, I was actually 1kg heavier back then. I can still fit into the clothes I wore then," expressing his surprise.
Currently stating his weight is 68kg, Yoo Hae-jin emphasizes that his secret to management is 'running.' Yoo Hae-jin mentioned, "I do it for management purposes. Otherwise, I would have just been finished," jokingly adding, "The filming is irregular and I drink, so it seems the only way to survive is to sweat, so it feels uncomfortable not to do it," he laughed.
In fact, he runs an average of 7 to 8 kilometers every day. "If I set my mind to it, I sometimes run about a half marathon," Yoo Hae-jin said, adding, "I don't participate in competitions. I have to think about my joints, and it seems I could overdo it. I don't care much about competition; I only do it as much as I need. I only do it with my watch when I feel like it, about a half marathon."
His habits remained unchanged when he performed in a play commemorating the 40th anniversary of his hometown Cheongju Theater last year. Remembering fondly, Yoo Hae-jin said, "It felt so good to run in my hometown." Reflecting on his recent challenge in theatre, he noted, "Having done films for a long time, I was very scared of the stage. It's completely different. On stage, there can't be a single NG, and the acting differs. To convey subtle emotions, the audience must feel and take away a lot. I kept putting it off, but an elder from the place where I started my acting suggested that since it's the 40th anniversary, wouldn't it be good to take a small role? So I did it, and it was really, a 'very' happy time," he expressed emotionally.
When asked if he would perform in plays in Daehakro instead of Cheongju if given the chance, Yoo Hae-jin remarked, "I want to. Maybe later in Cheongju again. For now, I really enjoyed that time in Cheongju. It was a very meaningful time with a really good work," he added.
'YADANG: The Snitch' opens on the 16th.
