Sul KyungGu expressed gratitude to his junior and co-star Park EunBin.
On the morning of the 14th, an interview with lead actor Sul KyungGu of the Disney+ original series "Hyperknife" took place at a cafe located in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul.
"Hyperknife" is a medical thriller that depicts the intense confrontation that unfolds when Seok (played by Park EunBin), a once-promising genius doctor, reunites with his mentor DeokHee (played by Sul KyungGu), who brought him to ruin.
In his first challenge as a medical thriller, Sul KyungGu played the role of Choi DeokHee, a world-renowned neurosurgeon with exceptional skills and a mentor who cruelly rejected his once-beloved disciple. He clashed fiercely with Park EunBin at times and showed glimpses of a mentor's genuine care, skillfully expressing the complex emotions of a character who reveals a vulnerable side. He played a central role in guiding the overall story with a nuanced control of his performance that was not excessive, proving once again that he is a trusted actor.
"Hyperknife" garnered attention by ranking first on FlixPatrol, a global OTT platform viewer ranking site, right after its release. It also placed in the top 5 overall content rankings in five countries: Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Turkey, attracting global viewer interest.
Regarding his junior Park EunBin, who he collaborated with for the first time, he noted, "The reason I got involved in this drama was that Park EunBin mentioned she had read the script, which piqued my curiosity. I thought, 'Is that actor really playing this role? Park EunBin is doing this?' Imagining it was so much fun. So there was a pull for me. I think she had similar thoughts while filming. She seems to have wanted to take on this role after mostly doing good characters, and she had the ambition. She prepared a lot on set," he shared. "We didn't do much rehearsal and synchronized well during the shoot. It wasn't like we made a pact and drew out our secret weapons like a sword, but thankfully it matched well."
In particular, Sul KyungGu mentioned, "After watching the final episode, I sent a text to Park EunBin saying, 'I'm grateful and thankful.' It was sincere. It seems like we were well-suited to each other in those situations. I'm grateful and thankful as a co-star."
Sul KyungGu noted that he had many conversations with Park EunBin on set, saying, "It's the first time I've talked this much with a co-star. After shooting, we kept talking even when we got back to the accommodation. While talking, we discussed the work but also shared trivial things. That was all thanks to Park EunBin. I found her character really interesting this time. When I arrived on set, she would sit next to me and ask things like, 'What do you like to eat?' and we talked a lot about various topics. It was a great time to get to know each other through that."
Meanwhile, "Hyperknife" is an eight-part series that released all episodes on the 9th.
