(Following Interview 1) Actress Hong Hwa-yeon shared behind-the-scenes stories from the production of 'Buried Hearts.'
On 12th, which concluded the drama 'Buried Hearts,' actress Hong Hwa-yeon, who played the role of Yeo Eun-nam, recently conducted an interview at the OSEN headquarters located in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Hong Hwa-yeon left a deep presence until the end by portraying the complex psychological changes of Yeo Eun-nam, the granddaughter of Chairman Cha Kang-cheon of Daesan Group (played by Woo Hyun), with restrained emotions.
Yeo Eun-nam, played by Hong Hwa-yeon, is a character who hides her identity as the granddaughter of Daesan Group and enters Daesan Energy as a new employee, falling in love with Executive Seo Dong-joo (played by Park Hyung-sik). Seo Dong-joo, unaware of this fact, rejected the proposal for an arranged marriage with the granddaughter of Daesan Group, leading Yeo Eun-nam to have an arranged marriage with prosecutor Yeom Hee-cheol (played by Kwon Soo-hyun), the nephew of the powerful figure Yeom Jang-seon (played by Heo Jun-ho).
However, early in the broadcast, viewers expressed that the use of a 'dating account' by Executive Seo Dong-joo and employee Yeo Eun-nam disrupted immersion, along with scenes depicting the two engaging in sexual intercourse without contraceptives, which led to controversy.
In this regard, Hong Hwa-yeon noted, "I had no discomfort or confusion about the dating account or shared account. Although Dong-joo is an executive, Eun-nam probably had much more money than Dong-joo, so I think she would have willingly accepted it," adding, "Viewers were really concerned, wondering if 'Eun-nam is getting pregnant' during the 'let's just do it' scene.
She continued, "I never imagined such speculation. I didn't expect viewers to focus so much on whether Eun-nam was pregnant. The truth is, I focused only on Eun-nam's emotions while filming, so I was immersed in the fact that it was the last night and my desire to share a more passionate love."
So, what was the chemistry like with Park Hyung-sik, the character she loved in the drama? Hong Hwa-yeon expressed, "Senior was someone who always received good evaluations, and as expected, he showed only good sides on set, for which I was grateful, and I learned a lot."
She added, "I thought the scene in the first episode was very important. If we couldn't create that scene well at the beginning, Dong-joo would feel betrayed and be persuasive when executing the plan later. At that time, we talked about properly showing the appearance of deeply in love lovers and decided to film that scene after taking our time, so we began shooting the first episode 2-3 months later."
Hong Hwa-yeon stated, "Since we started filming from the early dating scenes like the cafe scene, parking lot, and tattoo scene, as we became familiar and adapted to the set, we filmed the wedding scene, allowing us to capture the emotions of the two characters more naturally."
Moreover, she said, "At the time of filming that scene, I had no idea about Dong-joo's birth secret. I was focused only on the feeling of 'I love Dong-joo so much but I am marrying to push away Heo Il-do.' Furthermore, since Eun-nam and I also did not know the birth secret, it allowed us to act more naturally. I learned about the secret later. At first, I was surprised, thinking, 'The son of Yeosun-nam?' then a few days later, I heard, 'That's a misunderstanding, and the fact is that he is Heo Il-do's real son,' and I was left wondering, 'So what happens next?' while waiting for the script."
Hong Hwa-yeon remarked, "Since I got married, there have been no lines exchanged with Senior Park Hyung-sik, but once from a distance, he asked me, 'What were you thinking?' while we made eye contact. At that time, I had a bruise on my eye and my bracelet was broken from a big fight with Hee-cheol. Senior said he was looking at me with the heart of 'You have to live well, why are you behaving like that.' Filming with that mindset made me film with a different heart, and that was fun and good."
