Actor Lee Yu-Joon shared his thoughts on the conclusion of the drama "Buried Hearts."
On the 12th, Lee Yu-Joon portrayed Baewonbae in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Buried Hearts" (written by Lee Myung-Hee, directed by Jin Chang-Gyu, produced by Studio S, A2Z Entertainment, Purmir Production), which wrapped up with its 16th episode.
"Buried Hearts" is a life-or-death revenge story where Seo Dong-Joo (played by Park Hyung-Sik), who hacked a political slush fund of 2 trillion won, bets everything to fight against the absolute evil that killed him and to bring down that world. The collaboration between writer Lee Myung-Hee, known for "Money Flower," and director Jin Chang-Gyu, known for "Military Prosecutor Doberman," resulted in a high-quality production.
Lee Yu-Joon took on the role of Baewonbae, a dockworker at a seafood unloading dock in "Buried Hearts." He portrayed a character who takes on any job that earns money in a fishing village and served as a strong ally to Seo Dong-Joo. Lee Yu-Joon infused energy into the character Baewonbae with his delicate acting skills and charisma, living up to the reputation of being a versatile actor in South Korea.
Through "Buried Hearts," Lee Yu-Joon further deepened his acting skills and proved his ability to handle various genres and roles. He shared his thoughts on the conclusion via a Q&A session with his agency Billions.
Below is Lee Yu-Joon's Q&A related to "Buried Hearts."
Q. How do you feel about finishing "Buried Hearts?"
A. It’s a work that leaves many memories. I am grateful that I could achieve a good ending thanks to everyone who watched it with enjoyment.
Q. How do you perceive the character Baewonbae, and were there any challenges or focal points while acting?
A. There is a line that says, "No matter how you look at it, it's still Baewonbae." That shows how honest he is with his emotions and how he directly interacts with Dong-Joo (played by Park Hyung-Sik) and others. However, I think it's ironic and interesting that he has to disguise himself and change his identity as a fugitive.
Q. Do you usually look for viewers' reactions to the work? Were there any comments or reactions that left a strong impression?
A. I remember being amused when I saw a comment asking whether Baewonbae could save Heo Il-Do (played by Lee Hae-Young) when he was killed by Jo Yang-Chun (played by Kim Ki-Moo).
Q. Is there a scene or line from Baewonbae that stands out the most to you?
A. There is a scene where Dong-Joo and I are on a boat in the vast sea, passing by the yacht that Heo Il-Do is on. It was the first day I met Park Hyung-Sik. While I was driving, I called him "sunbae (senior)" and he urgently called out, "Hyung! Hyung!! Hyung!!!" I turned around to see him with a bewildered expression, saying, "The boat is sinking." At that moment, water was really rising in the boat, and he was scooping it out with a bucket. It was an unforgettable scene in my life.
Q. How was the atmosphere on set and the chemistry with the other actors?
A. It was nice. All the actors and staff were passionate and the set was considerate of each other.
Q. How do you think "Buried Hearts" will be remembered for you?
A. I think it will be remembered as a work made with treasure-like people.
Q. You have appeared in various works across genres and roles. Do you have your own criteria for choosing projects?
A. I have never tailored a project for myself, and I have always tried to adjust myself to the project. I think I will continue to think a lot about it as I have so far.
Q. Are there any fields, genres, or roles you wish to challenge in the future?
A. I would like to challenge roles involving dark, complex characters or comedic pure characters, or those with warm paternal love.
Q. What are your plans for activities in 2025?
A. I hope to see everyone again joyfully.
Q. Please say a word to the viewers who loved "Buried Hearts" and Baewonbae.
A. Thanks to the viewers' great love, we were able to successfully complete the magnificent journey of "Buried Hearts." Thank you sincerely for your love.
