The agency of The Boyz member Sunwoo has issued a direct apology regarding his character controversy. They have taken a firm stance to legally respond to indiscriminate malicious comments.
Sunwoo has come under fire for the character controversy. A video showing him not picking up his fallen earbuds while in transit and receiving them from his bodyguard has spread, drawing criticism. Sunwoo, who dropped his earbuds, got onto an elevator and shouted, "My earbuds," and as the bodyguard quickly picked them up and handed them over, Sunwoo received them with one hand, leading to the controversy.
Although a short video does not provide a complete understanding of the situation at that time, online communities have pointed out that Sunwoo's attitude was disrespectful. Amid this, Nana, a former member of After School, left a comment saying, "He should be scolded," further igniting the controversy.
Ultimately, as the controversy spread, Sunwoo expressed his frustration. On the 13th, he stated through an official fan communication platform, "But really, I would never do that behind the scenes. With all the fans in front of me, would I shout at the bodyguard to pick up my AirPods? It's just absurd to me," as he conveyed his stance on the character controversy.
The agency, One Hundred, also released an official statement addressing the controversy over Sunwoo's attitude, saying, "We sincerely apologize for not managing the situation properly."
One Hundred acknowledged, "We are deeply aware that Sunwoo's image in the video could raise the character controversy issue. Furthermore, Sunwoo is calmly reflecting on the matter after communicating with us," and added, "However, we feel regretful that the situation has unfolded differently from the direction in which we and the artist are reflecting. We regret not managing the situation more actively before this incident occurred and that the artist acted rashly."
They went on to say about the character controversy involving Sunwoo, "It is entirely the company's fault, and the artist is also reflecting on parts that had not been previously recognized. We will do our best to ensure that this type of negligence does not recur."
While conveying their apology, they also stated that they would take a firm approach against malicious comments that go too far regarding Sunwoo. One Hundred stated, "The occurrence of baseless malicious comments in relation to this incident is something we cannot neglect in order to protect the artist. We are preparing strong legal action regarding this matter."
As Sunwoo himself has expressed his frustration and the agency has conveyed its stance on both the apology and legal response, attention is focused on whether this can change the negative public opinion.
