It has been 21 years since actress Lee Mi-kyung passed away after battling lung cancer.
April 11, 2025, marks the 21st anniversary of actress Lee Mi-kyung's death. The late actress died at her home in Jeongneung, Seoul, at 10:30 p.m. on April 11, 2004, at the age of 44.
After being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2003, Lee Mi-kyung devoted herself to chemotherapy. Her health improved to the point where she could watch movies, but she suddenly became critically ill a few days later and passed away while her brother and three college friends were watching over her.
Before her passing, Lee Mi-kyung reportedly said in the days leading up to her death, "I am grateful to everyone, and I forgive those who made it difficult for me." The late actress's younger sister stated, "She was bright and cheerful throughout her treatment, contrary to what one might expect from someone with terminal cancer. She never lost hope and did her best until the end."
The late actress's brother said, "Fortunately, she passed away peacefully. When she was granted a part in 'The King's Woman,' she was highly motivated since it was her first historical drama, but she was upset when she got sick and had to drop out. She even joked, 'If I had continued to appear, I would have surpassed the popularity of Dae Jang Geum.'" He showed tears while recalling this.
Lee Mi-kyung debuted as a KBS 7th generation talent in 1980 and appeared in dramas such as 'Sanyuhwa,' 'Light and Chains,' 'Conditions of Love,' 'Tree That Blossoms Love,' 'TV Sun Tzu's Art of War,' 'Jirisan,' 'Endless Love,' 'The Thief's Wife,' 'We Are Middle Class,' 'Eyes of Dawn,' 'Jealousy,' 'Pilot,' 'Date of the Jujube Tree,' 'Three Men, Three Women,' 'LA Arariang,' 'Wedding Dress,' 'Invitation,' 'Man Met in Autumn,' 'Loneliness,' 'Taeyang's South,' and 'The King's Woman.'
