In the broadcast of "Yoo Quiz on the Block," Moon Ga-young reflected on her childhood as a child actor.
In the broadcast of tvN's entertainment program "Yoo Quiz on the Block" on the 9th, actress Moon Ga-young grants the special episode titled "Desperate Struggle."
On that day, Moon Ga-young, who is originally a child actor, answered the question of how old she was when she debuted, saying, "I was born in Germany and came to Korea when I was 10. I started right then," stating that she has now been in her 20th year since her debut. Moon Ga-young, who has not taken a break even once, was asked by Yoo Jae-seok whether it was amazing to meet again in the early 2000s when she was active as a child actor, during the golden age of child actors which included Park Eun-bin, Lee Se-young, and Yeo Jin-goo.
Moon Ga-young recalled, "It's amazing. I met teacher Ban Hyo-jung when filming 'Black Dragon.' I met her while shooting KBS's rural drama 'Beyond the Mountain.' I really met her after 19 years. I used to go to the set with my mom, and she remembered that too, saying she recalled me studying for exams in the car and filming after the exam period ended."
Meanwhile, she drew attention by revealing her reading notes as an avid reader, who reads various books including "The Proof of the Nine" and "Waltz of Goodbye," and even writes excerpts.
Yoo Jae-seok noted, "This person has published a book. It’s not just any book. I heard it has already gone to the 8th edition. The book's revenue was also donated to a hospital amounting to 100 million won." He asked, "What kind of book is it?" Moon Ga-young replied, "It’s a collection of prose. I compiled things I've written for a long time."
Especially when the phrase "I'm good at waiting" from the prose collection was mentioned, Moon Ga-young explained, "I talked about it several times during auditions. When you audition, they often ask, ‘What are you good at? What are you confident about?’ I'm really good at waiting, and I started writing from that point."
Then Yoo Jae-seok asked, "Waiting can be boring and anxious, but Ms. Ga-young has been active for 20 years since her debut. Isn’t there any impatience or anxiety?" Moon Ga-young responded, "There was so much. Especially when I was younger, there was even more. When I was living as a child actor during the golden age of child actors in the early 2000s, the first to fourth parts of dramas were often starting off with child actors. Therefore, the auditions were really fierce and it was tough to stand out."
She continued, "One of the reasons that people didn't know much about my life as a child actor is that there were no hit works that could represent my childhood. At that time, it was quite disappointing. I believe that waiting is not much different from enduring. If you stay steady in that place, it seems like the right moment always comes."
Moon Ga-young recounted, "Since I started working at a young age, there were many things that required waiting. In the past, there were almost no time constraints for child actors, so I was almost always filming at the last minute. I waited long and busied myself in that waiting time doing Sudoku, reading books, and doing various things. Even as a young child, I wanted to have representative works quickly. I auditioned for 13 years."
She mentioned that she is still in contact with child actors she worked with at that time, including Kim Yoo-jung, Kim So-hyun, and Yeo Jin-goo. Moon Ga-young shared, "Seeing that we all endured together and are doing well now is quite amazing and also admirable. It seems that good things always faintly appear unexpectedly as you endure. However, during that time, I really needed to be well-prepared."
