SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Haunted Palace' has brought together veteran acting artisans such as Kim Sang-ho, Ahn Nae-sang, Gil Hae-yeon, Kim In-kwon, Cha Cheong-hwa, Son Byeong-ho, and Lee Won-jong, heightening expectations.
On April 18th (Friday) at 9:50 p.m., 'Haunted Palace' (scripted by Yoon Soo-jung/directed by Yoon Seong-sik), which will air following 'Buried Hearts', tells a story where Yeori, a shaman who rejects her destiny, and the Imugi Kang-cheol, trapped in the body of her first love Yun-gap, confront the Palcheok-gwi (a mythical creature) who harbors a grudge against the royal family, resulting in a tumultuous struggle between body and spirit. The seasoned director Yoon Seong-sik, known for directing dramas like 'Mr. Queen', 'Lee Soon Shin is the Best', 'Bridal Mask', and 'Dae Joyeong', collaborates with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who penned 'The King's Face' and 'Cheer Up!', bringing together a fresh casting combination with Rising star Yoo Seong-jae (playing Yun-gap/Kang-cheol), Kim Ji-yeon (playing Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (playing Lee Jeong).
In this regard, the 'Haunted Palace' team has first revealed stills of Kim Sang-ho (playing Poongsan), Ahn Nae-sang (playing Choi Won-woo), Gil Hae-yeon (playing Neobdeok), Kim In-kwon (playing Kim Eung-soon), Cha Cheong-hwa (playing Yeong-geum), Son Byeong-ho (playing Kim Bong-in), and Lee Won-jong (playing Gaseob Seonim), who will enrich the K-fantasy worldview of the Imugi and the shaman, drawing attention.
First, Kim Sang-ho will deliver a chilling vibe as the blind diviner 'Poongsan'. In the drama, Poongsan, originally a low-level wizard on the streets, becomes a favored figure in the gathering place for the blind due to his association with the Palcheok-gwi, serving as its 'Heavenly General'. Kim Sang-ho is expected to heighten the chilling atmosphere of the court mystery with his masterful acting skills. The audience is eagerly awaiting how the intense battles involving Poongsan, Kang-cheol, Yeori, and Lee Jeong surrounding the Palcheok-gwi will unfold, as well as Kim Sang-ho's impressive presence.
Ahn Nae-sang takes on the role of 'Choi Won-woo', the 5th cousin of the queen and former prime minister. Choi Won-woo hails from a prestigious family that continues to exert significant influence even after retiring, and is a character that King Lee Jeong is trying hard to win over. With his gentle charisma and excellent control, actor Ahn Nae-sang is generating great anticipation for his performance in 'Haunted Palace'.
In the midst of this, Gil Hae-yeon portrays 'Neobdeok', a shaman with exceptional abilities and Yeori's grandmother. Neobdeok, who struggled all her life to fulfill her role despite being marginalized, raised her granddaughter Yeori, blessed with the destiny of a shaman, with great care. The audience is attentive to Gil Hae-yeon's powerful shaman performance, having displayed an irreplaceable aura in every work.
Kim In-kwon plays 'Kim Eung-soon', the king's loyal courtier, contributing to comic relief. In particular, his interactions with Yun-gap, who behaves without restraint towards the king, are expected to provide unexpected laughter. The focus is on Kim In-kwon's unique comedic talent and seasoned sense of humor, shaping a delightful character.
Meanwhile, Cha Cheong-hwa takes on the role of Yun-gap's mother, 'Yeong-geum', showcasing performances that traverse between laughter and emotion. Yeong-geum is a determined woman who strives to raise her son Yun-gap well after her husband's death, radiating sincerity and a cheerful presence while amplifying the emotional weight of the story with her deep maternal love. Observers are curious about how Cha Cheong-hwa will again capture the audience's attention with her immersive, relatable acting.
Additionally, Son Byeong-ho portrays 'Kim Bong-in', the Prime Minister and the king's maternal grandfather. Kim Bong-in is a solid political supporter to King Lee Jeong, appearing as a kind old man, yet is a savvy politician who does not easily show his true feelings. Son Byeong-ho is expected to create an intriguing presence in the midst of the political intrigues of 'Haunted Palace' with his captivating aura and adept acting.
Lastly, Lee Won-jong will take on the role of 'Gaseob Seonim', an expert in the Buddhist exorcism ritual called Gubyeong-si-sik, helping Yeori in her battle against the Palcheok-gwi, showcasing an unparalleled presence. Known for his seasoned acting skills, Lee Won-jong perfectly embodies the character of 'Gaseob Seonim' beneath a warm and kind impression, expected to robustly support the fantasy worldview of 'Haunted Palace'.
In response, the 'Haunted Palace' team remarked, "Kim Sang-ho, Ahn Nae-sang, Gil Hae-yeon, Kim In-kwon, Cha Cheong-hwa, Son Byeong-ho, and Lee Won-jong have completed the 'trusted actors' lineup of 'Haunted Palace'. As veteran actors, whose acting skills are beyond question, they've perfectly embodied everything from daily life acting that provokes laughter to engaging character depictions that enhance immersion in the fantasy world. With the support of such distinguished actors, we ask for much anticipation and interest in the first broadcast of 'Haunted Palace', where they will present seamless character play."
