"Naraesik" Yook Sungjae revealed a legendary drama audition story.
On the afternoon of 9th, Yook Sungjae, the lead of the new SBS drama "Haunted Palace," and Kim Jiyeon, who has been friends for 16 years, appeared on the YouTube channel "Naraesik."
Earlier, the two met and became friends at the JYP public audition, and later Yook Sungjae debuted in the idol group BTOB under Cube Entertainment, while Kim Jiyeon debuted as Bona in WJSN under Starship Entertainment.
In response to a question about any unusual audition stories, Yook Sungjae said, "When I auditioned for the drama 'School 2015', it seemed like the director wanted to test my personality for the character. The director said, 'What kind of friend are you?' At that time, BTOB was a rookie, and I was told, 'What is BTOB? It's an unknown group.'" He recalled those days.
Yook Sungjae said, "I turned red there and said, 'But director, we all have dreams and are working hard towards those dreams, so you shouldn't talk like that,' and just left." He added, "After that, there was a lot of discussion in the company. The director went with me and asked, 'Did you do well?' He was waiting outside. After I came out red-faced, I said, 'I don't think I can work in the drama industry anymore.' It was that shocking, and I also regretted that comment."
He continued, "Fortunately, the character of Gong Taekwang itself was a character with anger management issues. I went not knowing what kind of character I was playing. Later, the director told me, 'This is a funny guy,' implying that I was just a rookie and had stood up to him. He said that's why I got cast as Gong Taekwang. The drama also did well," he laughed.
