The content investment and distribution company Billions' subsidiary Billions Plus has signed an exclusive distribution contract with Media Castle, a Japanese film import and distribution company, and has officially begun the distribution of Japanese premium content in the country. Through this contract, the two companies plan to present more than 10 Japanese films and animations in the country throughout 2025.
Media Castle has been recognized as a leading film company that has successfully introduced hit films in Japan to the country, with excellent content curation capabilities. Recently, it has garnered more attention after being acquired by Fan Entertainment, a major domestic production company that was spotlighted for the Netflix series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'
Through this contract, Billions Plus can now reliably supply the premium Japanese content lineup held by Media Castle to the domestic market and plans to strengthen its position in the domestic content market, which has a strong fan base for Japanese films and animations.
Meanwhile, Billions Plus is also actively moving into drama production in addition to distribution. The Coupang Play series 'Newtopia,' in which it participated as a production company, recorded the highest cumulative viewer count in the history of Coupang Play series just 10 days after its launch, entering the top 10 in 54 countries worldwide. The work has attracted significant attention from domestic and international fans, featuring BLACKPINK's Jisoo and actor Park Jung-min as leads.
There are expectations that Billions Plus, which has secured the global strength of K-content, will make the domestic content market even richer.
A representative from Billions Plus noted, "Starting with 'Solitary Gourmet: The Movie,' we have become able to reliably introduce various Japanese content to domestic audiences," and added, "This contract with Media Castle will be a pivotal first step in our premium content distribution strategy."
