Kim Dong-jun, an actor from 'New Recruit 3', expressed his feelings about returning to the army.
On the 7th, a production presentation for the Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit 3' (written by Yoon Ki-young and Kang Go-eun, directed by Min Jin-ki and Jo Je-wook) was held at The Saint in Sindorim-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul.
'New Recruit', which started from the highly successful animation of the same name, is a hyper-realistic military comedy about the story that unfolds as a 'military spoon' new recruit joins a place where various characters, from good to bad and strange, come together. It received great love in all seasons, appealing to the tastes of the public across genders and generations with the actors' remarkable performances that maximized reality alongside unique characters, and a delightful blend of comedy and relatable reality.
Returning with high expectations, 'New Recruit 3' features the unpredictable transfer of two new recruits and the return of an unprecedented villain, raising alarms for the Myth Unit. The story of Park Min-seok (Kim Min-ho), who is facing promotion to sergeant yet finds his military life drastically complicated, unfolds dynamically. Most notably, director Min Jin-ki, who broke down the barriers between drama and variety through 'gun contents', collaborates with comedy master Yoon Ki-young to further excite drama fans.
Kim Dong-jun, a global star from a child actor background, plays the role of new recruit 'Kook Min-soo', known for his looks, character, and sense. He captivates senior soldiers in the army with his enchanting charm that threatens the position of 'military spoon' Park Min-seok. Kim Dong-jun, who enlisted in 2021 and was discharged in January 2023, served as a drill instructor at the new recruit training center and is expected to showcase a different military life through 'New Recruit 3'.
Director Min Jin-ki noted, "I wondered who could handle the transfer of a global star, and the person who perfectly embodied military life at the training center was Kim Dong-jun. It matched well with the character. I thought having a king of Goryeo as a new recruit would provide a cathartic experience."
Kim Dong-jun said, "It's only been two years since I discharged, but I watched 'New Recruit 1' while I was in the army. It was so fun that I had the thought that I definitely wanted to participate in a work dealing with military stories after my discharge. During dinner while filming 'The Goryeo-Khitan War', I happened to meet Kim Min-ho, whom I had never met before, and I had said I was such a fan, which was six months before filming 'New Recruit 3'."
He added, "It was so amazing when the director asked me to join. I thought it was destiny to be involved in a work that I found so fun and wanted to participate in. Since it's been a short time since my discharge, I thought I could portray that feeling well. I wanted to shoot with the spirit of a private and return to my beginner's mindset."
The Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit 3' will have its first premiere on the 7th at 10 p.m. on channel ENA, and will be exclusively available as a free VOD right after the main broadcast every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. It can be watched on the OTT service Tving.
