(Following Interview ①) 'Lobby' actor Kang Haerim revealed the preparation process she underwent for her character.
On the 7th, an interview with actor Kang Haerim for the film 'Lobby' was conducted at the OSEN office located in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
The film 'Lobby' (directed by Ha Jung-woo, produced by Workhouse Company and Film Momentum, provided by Michigan Venture Capital and WYSIWYG STUDIOS, distributed by SHOWBOX) depicts the story of startup CEO Chang-wook (Ha Jung-woo), who only knows research, starting his first lobbying golf to win a 4 trillion won national project.
Kang Haerim made her debut with the web drama 'Idol Authority,' honed her acting skills by appearing as a reenactment actor in KBS entertainment show 'Love's Controversy,' and was cast in the Netflix drama 'Somebody' through the keen eye of director Jeong Ji-woo, who discovered actress Kim Goeun, overcoming a competition of 600:1.
Later, in 'Lobby,' Kang Haerim made her first screen debut as the professional golfer Jin-pro, who falls into a slump. When asked about her alignment with the character she portrayed as Jin-pro, who embarks on entertaining golf with Chang-wook, she responded, "I don't think I have a strong personality. I tend to suppress my feelings and endure. But isn't Jin-pro, at first, just taking it all in during entertaining golf, unable to take action? I think I feel similarly. I'm also not the type to take action assertively."
Kang Haerim also shared the story of how she prepared for and viewed her character, saying, "There was always a setting that Jin-pro was a person who lived only according to what his father told him. Maybe that's why he doesn't understand the ways of the world. He doesn't even know what kind of situation it is."
She continued, "I prepared for golf for three months, practicing five hours a day. I tried on many outfits and golf clothes because I needed to look professional. I opted for a more neutral look instead of colorful attire, as advised." She added, "I never had a particular interest in golf, though I took some lessons as a hobby. But this was the first time I practiced formally."
She explained, "Since I had to master the swing form of a professional player while practicing, my body didn't cooperate. I needed more muscle than I thought. When you see professional players, they have muscles all over. Since I didn't have that, I practiced relentlessly." She noted, "However, I don't play golf anymore after filming. I might go when I have a chance with friends, but there aren't many people around me who play."
In particular, Kang Haerim revealed, "The golf balls that appear in the movie were all done with CG. In fact, I didn't need to play well at all." She continued, "Of course, experts would say that if you just have the form down, that's half the battle. Still, if I have to play golf again, I should take lessons again. It's been so long since filming that I've forgotten everything. My body has stiffened as well."
