Actor Ahn Jae-hyun recounted a traffic accident he experienced in his 20s.

That day, comedian Kwak Beom and actor Ahn Jae-hyun appeared as guests in the 'Guk-joo's House' section. Lee Guk-joo asked Ahn Jae-hyun, "Have you been majoring in modeling since you were young?" and Ahn Jae-hyun candidly replied, "I dreamed of having a rich dad. I thought it didn’t matter what job I had as long as I could make money."

He recalled, "But in the year I turned 20, I had a traffic accident. I was lying in the hospital for six months. I was sitting in the back seat of a taxi when it crashed like this. Two ribs were broken, and when I opened my eyes, I had a tube inserted. My lung collapsed, and I was lying there with an IV. I thought about it. I really started to objectify myself and asked, 'What do you want to live on?' At that time, I felt that my visuals were lacking to become a celebrity."

In response, Kwak Beom asked, "You?" in surprise, and Lee Guk-joo teased, "You're making it up right now." To which Ahn Jae-hyun responded, "Listen. I’ll tell you a funny story. I had a high school classmate named Lim Seul-ong. We were in the same grade, and he was extremely popular. He was on a level that was hard to even describe."

He continued, "When I objectified myself, I realized that (being an actor or singer) was not going to happen. However, I thought, 'I’m tall enough, and with this face, I could challenge becoming a model.' So, as soon as I was discharged, I went to a modeling academy. Out of about 20 males, only around 10 were selected, and I didn’t make it past the first round. Later, I asked them, 'Why didn’t you select me back then?' and they said, 'You looked quite outdated then.' There is something like being a country bumpkin, isn't there?"

In particular, Ahn Jae-hyun also talked about the financial struggles after his model debut. He said, "I didn't know if it had changed now, but I thought models made a lot of money. After graduating from the academy, I shot my first magazine. The pay was around 50,000 to 80,000 won per issue," and Kwak Beom expressed disappointment, saying, "It hasn’t increased much; I hear it's still the same now."

Ahn Jae-hyun said, "At that time, wasn't it every model's wish to be in magazines? But one day, I got an advertisement offer. The main model was Lee Soo-hyuk, which would be displayed prominently on the Apgujeong station billboard. I got chosen. Do you know how much I was featured? If you have Lee Soo-hyuk in front, then I’m only shown this much. The ad pay isn't that high if the face isn’t shown. In my memory, it was around 800,000 won."

Lee Guk-joo was surprised and asked, "Even if you worked hard, your face wasn't shown?" Ahn Jae-hyun replied, "Well, that's everyone's recognition. Also, when modeling, the pay comes in about 3 to 6 months later. Additionally, it’s often paid in clothes. That’s a bit sad."
