'Palluntyeor' has established itself from a pilot show during Seollal to a regular program.
On the morning of the 3rd, an online press conference was held for the new KBS2 entertainment program 'Palluntyeor.' The event was attended by producer Jeong Jae-yoon, announcer Nam Hyun-jong, Lee Chan-won, Lee Yong-pyo, Hyun Young-min, Kim Young-kwang, Jo Won-hee, Jeong Dae-se, Jeon Ga-eul, Kim Dong-cheol, Kim Ye-geon, and others.
'Palluntyeor' is a new concept futsal entertainment program combining 'BALL' (soccer ball) and 'VOLUNTEER.' It features legendary soccer stars from South Korea, averaging 40 years old, facing off against futsal powerhouses across the country while engaging in charity. This time, it will feature big matches with united teams from Seoul-Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong-Jeolla, and Gyeongsang, all while aiming for nationwide futsal domination, donating the entire prize money. In fact, 10 million won was donated for the treatment of pediatric cancer patients at the National Cancer Center, and previously, 11 million won was donated during its broadcast on YouTube.
On this day, the only female athlete Jeon Ga-eul started introducing herself. Jeon Ga-eul said, "I have played 101 A matches and scored 38 goals. I have played for several teams overseas," and is also the only member who scored in the World Cup. Lee Yong-pyo, who is both a player and coach, said, "I am the only coach and player with a C license in 'Palluntyeor,'" while Lee Chan-won noted, "I am the MC and special commentator of 'Palluntyeor.' I am happy to be able to broadcast with the legendary stars of South Korea."
When asked to select core members for offense and defense, Coach Lee Yong-pyo replied, "The best defender is team play, and the best attacker is counterattacking. If I pick one player, it could cause performance issues in subsequent games. The members seem generous but are actually quite stingy. They might slack off after being picked."
On the other hand, when asked to select players who provide entertainment value, Lee Yong-pyo began, "There are several who add entertainment value, but Dae-se and Young-min are..." To which Hyun Young-min responded, "I'm the Shin Dong-yeob of the soccer world," and Lee Chan-won added, "I've been broadcasting with Shin Dong-yeob for four years, and our characters are similar. It's not scripted laughter, but rather fittingly witty for the situation," sharing a laugh.
The 'Palluntyeor' broadcast during last year's Seollal special achieved a nationwide viewership rating of 3.9% with a peak rating of 5.4%, garnering enthusiastic responses from viewers, leading to its regular lineup confirmation.
Regarding the regular lineup, Hyun Young-min said, "My parents are also pleased. It’s hard for them to see me on the field after I retired. I feel proud as a son, knowing how my parents feel watching me on TV," while Kim Young-kwang added, "I think it was scheduled for regular programming because they see my potential for growth. My skills have improved tremendously." In fact, Lee Chan-won hinted, "You’ll be surprised at the speed of Kim Young-kwang’s growth."
The difference from the pilot is that Seol Gi-hyeon has left and Jeong Dae-se has joined. In response, Lee Chan-won said, "I can’t think of a certain player named Seol. When it comes to the attacking line, they clash with opponents. Because the attacking line collides, they can break through smoothly. You can feel the difference in the pilot and regular recordings," and Lee Yong-pyo added, "It's not the Jeong Dae-se we knew to the extent that you’d ask, 'Why has this happened?' When I heard he was coming in, I wondered if he’d be fit, but he has returned completely new."
Hearing this, Jeong Dae-se remarked, "I can’t accept that I didn’t score many goals during my time on YouTube. I thought I was really good. I always strive to be the best player. No matter who it is, I will give 100% to 120% effort," while Lee Chan-won jokingly said, "Jeong Dae-se is weak in the heat. The weather isn’t good right now. If he goes out briefly in the summer, he can come back."
Although all the participants are soccer players, 'Palluntyeor' will proceed with futsal. When asked about the differences, Jo Won-hee said, "The space is small. In a small space, individual abilities of players seem important. I wasn't a player who excelled at one-on-one skills. Instead, I think I do well in marking, so that enhances my strengths. In fact, I wonder how I would have done in futsal."
Jeong Dae-se expressed, "Even though I was a soccer player, I always said I couldn’t beat futsal. Futsal players said conversely that they can’t defeat soccer. I feel like the ratio of tactics to individual skills in futsal is different. In soccer, where the field is large, players with natural abilities excel, but in futsal, it seems teams that make tactical movements win."
Lee Yong-pyo commented on the importance of knowing futsal rules, saying, "I haven't really grasped the rules yet. Through the experience, I've learned how well the futsal players perform, and I think we can't beat them if we face off. Enduring is also a tactical choice. If we hadn’t done that, there would have been a significant difference because the futsal players are very good." Hearing this, announcer Nam Hyun-jong remarked, "You can view all of us—coaches and players—as characters who are growing together."
'Palluntyeor' is a sports entertainment program characterized by charity. Lee Yong-pyo stated, "Our players are doing good work in various ways. While they can't put in the same condition and physical state as they did during their playing days, their passion remains the same as when they were players," and added, "There needs to be a motivation that draws that passion out; during their playing days, it was to win, to grow, and to have dreams. After retirement, that motivation disappears. I believe that something like charity can draw that motivation out. I think that's significant in itself."
Hyun Young-min spoke about the physical changes he has experienced in his 40s, saying, "The difference from my 20s is that I'm living off the love of my family. While I was fiercely professional in my 20s, now in my 40s, I spend time with my family and receive love, which has made it easier to manage my physical health." When announcer Nam Hyun-jong asked, "Is it more comfortable to be at home, or is it better to come out here?" Hyun Young-min replied, "I definitely have to come out. It's comfortable for both of us," eliciting laughter.
Just like the players, the commentators and casters were impressive. Lee Chan-won will take on the role of commentator, while Nam Hyun-jong will serve as the caster. Nam Hyun-jong asked Lee Chan-won how he prepared for futsal commentary, and Lee Chan-won revealed, "Actually, the commentary for soccer and futsal is different. I have done soccer commentary on 'Mungchan.' The rules are clear and I didn’t have any problems, but I'm not familiar with futsal rules."
Lee Chan-won continued, "In futsal, you have to kick in within 4 seconds, and that was something new to me, so I studied it. I focused on knowing those rules, and as we began 'Palluntyeor,' I questioned whether it should lean more towards sports commentary or blend in the entertainment aspect. I opted for a combination of entertainment and futsal commentary."
He also boasted about score predictions, saying, "They are players I loved and admired from my playing days, so when we play against teams of varying levels, I get a feel for how our team's skills will measure up. So far, I think I've nailed all the predictions." Indeed, Nam Hyun-jong commented, "In the future broadcasts, it will be interesting to see how well Lee Chan-won, known for his predictions on 'Palluntyeor,' performs," to which Lee Chan-won added, "I’ve successfully predicted all the games up to today."
Nam Hyun-jong discussed the key viewing points of 'Palluntyeor,' saying, "There’s a saying in the sports world: 'Form is temporary, but class is permanent.' Here, the seniors, brothers, and sisters were legends, but their physicality makes it difficult to perform on the soccer field now. Once narrowed down to futsal, players' past impressive plays and class are more prominent. Secondly, while we engage in charity, we also present challenges against regular viewers, which I think is appealing. It allows for two-way communication, so anyone can apply to participate anytime."
During the press conference, producer Jeong Jae-yoon joined and explained, "This program was planned by Lee Yong-pyo. He has always aimed to positively impact society through sports. He provided specific suggestions, and upon hearing that, we simply made it into a program."
He added, "However, after filming my first episode on YouTube, I worried that it would turn into a prize money program instead of a charity program. But after today’s shoot, the players seem to be proving otherwise. I think they are achieving good results so far, and from a producer's perspective, while there are many sports entertainment programs, I pondered what philosophy to approach this with. I aimed to create a more remarkable sports entertainment that tells the stories of heroes rather than just focusing on entertainment."
In particular, regarding the role of commentator filled by Lee Chan-won, Director Jeong praised, "During my time as a sports producer, I've met outstanding commentators and casters, but I’m greedy about that," and added, "You might become a giant in the music industry, but I'd love to see you become a giant in the sports world as well."
Meanwhile, the heartfelt challenges and touching stories of soccer legends such as Lee Yong-pyo, Hyun Young-min, Kim Young-kwang, Jo Won-hee, Jeong Dae-se, Baek Ji-hoon, Jeon Ga-eul, and Kim Dong-cheol, along with the cheerful commentary of Lee Chan-won, known as 'Chan-tto Baegi,' will be revealed in the first episode of 'Palluntyeor,' airing on the 5th at 10:40 p.m.
