Comedian Kim Byung-man announced his remarriage in September. A year after being cleared of domestic abuse allegations against his ex-wife, he has confirmed a fresh start, while also ensuring that the issues regarding custody of his ex-wife's daughter are in the process of being finalized.
According to OSEN's coverage on the 3rd, Kim Byung-man is in the final stages regarding asset division and custody of his daughter with his ex-wife, A, whom he divorced in 2020.
On this day, Kim Byung-man's agency, Slow Turtle, released an official statement, saying, "Kim Byung-man will remarry an ordinary woman in September." The fiancée is a working professional, and the wedding will be quietly held with family and relatives. The agency noted that "the location and date of the wedding have not yet been finalized."
Previously, Kim Byung-man married non-celebrity A, who is seven years his senior, in 2011, but announced a sudden divorce in 2023. According to Kim Byung-man, he lived separately for nearly 10 years, from 2012 until 2020, just one year after their marriage. After that, he filed for divorce in 2019 and brought their marriage to an end in 2020.
However, four years after the divorce, in November of last year, suddenly allegations surfaced that Kim Byung-man had habitually abused his ex-wife, A. A claimed through a media outlet that Kim Byung-man committed habitual abuse during their marriage and that he had been referred to the prosecution, asserting that Kim Byung-man's claim of living separately for 10 years was not true.
In response, Kim Byung-man's agency stated, "The story that Kim Byung-man assaulted his ex-wife is not true. A made false accusations to avoid paying the money recognized by the court in their divorce property division. It has already been sent to the prosecution with an opinion for non-indictment by the police, and the Supreme Court ruling also did not recognize any assault facts."
In addition, "In the divorce lawsuit, A claimed that Kim Byung-man assaulted her during their marriage; however, the court did not accept it. At the time that she claimed to have been assaulted, Kim Byung-man was staying overseas," adding, "The ex-wife had a previous marriage, while Kim Byung-man was marrying for the first time. The property management was handled by the ex-wife, so Kim Byung-man was falsely accused to avoid property division. The ex-wife also took out dozens of life insurance policies in Kim Byung-man's name. Kim Byung-man learned about this fact during the divorce proceedings, which shocked him."
In particular, as Kim Byung-man had adopted his ex-wife A's daughter, it was necessary to terminate the adoption, but A allegedly demanded 3 billion won from Kim Byung-man under this condition. As a result, Kim Byung-man continued the lawsuit regarding habitual abuse, asset division, and termination of the adoption, and he was cleared of the domestic abuse allegation by the prosecution.
However, regarding the termination of the adoption lawsuit, it was confirmed that A's daughter did not wish to terminate the adoption, leading to Kim Byung-man losing the case. At that time, A offered to write a termination consent form on the condition that she would not receive the property division (a total of 1.8 billion won), but it is known that Kim Byung-man rejected this proposal.
Meanwhile, according to OSEN's coverage, it has been confirmed that Kim Byung-man has not yet terminated the adoption of A's daughter ahead of his remarriage. Insiders stated that the asset division and household registration issues between Kim Byung-man and A are "almost in the final stage."
On the other hand, Kim Byung-man is currently settled in Jeju Island, sharing his daily life on his YouTube channel "Byung-man Land." He is preparing to open a experiential school café on May 1 and plans to stay in Jeju after his marriage, commuting to Seoul whenever there is a schedule. After going through a difficult time, as he starts a new love, many people are sending support and congratulations for Kim Byung-man's remarriage.
