Actress Kim Hee-jung captivated viewers with her diverse emotional performance in "Heo's Diner."
The new drama "Heo's Diner," starring Kim Hee-jung, is a fantasy comedy romance directed by Oh Hwan-min and Kim Kyung-eun, and written by Sung So-hyun. The story revolves around the problematic figure Heo Gyun from the Joseon Dynasty, who accidentally finds himself running a diner 400 years later in modern times.
In the drama, Kim Hee-jung plays the role of a mother without a signboard at a rice restaurant and the mother of Bong Eun-sil (played by Choo So-jung). She is characterized by her sincere personality, serving hearty and carefully prepared meals at every meal. Even though she doesn't earn much money, she considers it a value in life to serve a warm meal to those who are hungry.
On the 24th, the newly released "Heo's Diner" featured Eun-sil's mother, who could not just pass by the hungry Heo Gyun (played by Siu-min) in front of the store and offered him a meal. Although her daughter Eun-sil had taken away Heo Gyun's side dish due to not having money, she returned it and said, "Here you go. Don't worry about the money," adding, "Serving a warm meal to a hungry person is a good deed," providing a touching moment.
Additionally, Kim Hee-jung portrayed the mother-daughter chemistry with Choo So-jung realistically, enhancing the immersion. When Eun-sil returned home after quitting her job, she expressed anger by saying, "Did you quit your job again?" and tried to chase her away. After some time, when Eun-sil returned and complained about being ignored while attending to others, her disappointed expression conveyed her sad feelings. In that scene, Kim Hee-jung's heavy emotional performance left a deep impression on viewers.
Meanwhile, in the second episode, Eun-sil's mother was found bleeding and collapsed, adding tension to the drama. The story raises questions about what hidden narrative lies behind her accident, and expectations for Kim Hee-jung's wide-ranging acting spectrum are building.
"Heo's Diner" broadcasts every Monday and Tuesday at 5 p.m. on Netflix and Wavve, at 7 p.m. on Watcha and Tving, and at 9 p.m. on MBN Plus.
