Actor Lee Byung-hun confessed that he practiced for the movie 'Broker' by playing omok with his wife, actress Lee Min-jung, and their son.
On the afternoon of the 1st, during a live broadcast of SBS Radio's 'Escape from Two O'clock Cultus Show (abbreviated as Cultus Show),' Lee Byung-hun appeared as a guest. Lee Byung-hun talked about his recent activities and the film to promote the newly released movie 'Broker.'
'Broker' is a work that depicts the dramatic competition story of Korea's legendary Go player Cho Hun-hyun and his disciple, another legendary Go player Lee Chang-ho. In this, Lee Byung-hun played the role of Cho Hun-hyun.
In a situation where he had to portray a professional Go player, Lee Byung-hun admitted, "I didn't know how to play Go at all," and said, "I started taking lessons after deciding to make the movie."
He continued, "It wasn't about Go skills, but the important thing was how professional Go players placed stones. It was about the technique of placing a stone in the center when there are plenty of stones placed around," which made everyone laugh as he added, "I practiced using omok."
He revealed, "Not only was I unfamiliar with the rules of Go, but teaching someone like Lee Min-jung or my son—I found it difficult with my own skills. So, I taught them omok and kept practicing placing the stones."
Lee Byung-hun particularly noted, "Since it's a competition, I don't let them win. I won nearly every time I played omok with my son, about 10 out of 10. There should be some pain like that," which elicited laughter, and he jokingly added, "Before that, I mainly played chess, but I lost every time, 10 games in a row. So when I played omok, I felt exhilarated."
He also mentioned, "With Lee Min-jung, I would say I won 8 out of 10 times and let her win 2 times," which led DJ Kim Tae-kyun to comment, "You're basically the omok champion at home," bringing more laughter.
