SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Haunted Palace' character posters of Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon have been unveiled.
Set to air on April 18 following SBS's 'Buried Hearts,' the new Friday-Saturday drama 'Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung and directed by Yoon Sung-sik) is a romantic comedy about a shaman, Yeori, who rejects her fate, and a person trapped in the body of her first love, Yun-gap, who confronts the Palchukgwi harboring a grudge against the royal family, leading to a chaotic struggle for both body and soul.
Director Yoon Sung-sik, who has gained recognition for his reliable directing on dramas such as 'Mr. Queen,' 'Lee Soon Shin is the Best,' 'Bridal Mask,' and 'Dae Joyeong,' joins forces with writer Yoon Soo-jung, known for 'The King's Face' and 'Cheer Up!'. The fresh acting combination of Yook Sung-jae (as Yun-gap/Kang-cheol), Kim Ji-yeon (as Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (as Lee Jeong) is drawing attention for its anticipated synergy.
In the meantime, 'Haunted Palace' has caught attention by unveiling two character posters that promise Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon's captivating character portrayals. Among them, Yook Sung-jae plays Yun-gap, who is possessed by the evil god Imugi, 'Kang-cheol,' while Kim Ji-yeon takes on the role of Yeori, the granddaughter of a famous shaman, who possesses great spiritual power but lives as a craftsman, rejecting her fate as a shaman, leading to a complicated romance filled with entanglements of body and soul.
In the character poster, Yook Sung-jae embodies the imposing presence of 'Imugi Kang-cheol,' drawing attention. The Kang-cheol, who has occupied the body of Yun-gap, shows a charmingly arrogant smile while casually leaning, revealing the demeanor of an evil god. Simultaneously, the mysterious scales etched on his black robe, the aura of a massive sword shining on his shoulder, and the background illustration of the soaring Imugi combined with Kang-cheol convey an undeniable charisma. This has raised expectations for Yook Sung-jae's tailored performance that will portray the diverse charms of a millennium-old Imugi, from the mischievous allure of an evil god to a powerful charisma.
In contrast, Kim Ji-yeon captivates with her determined gaze, exuding a strong will amid her elegant visuals. Her appearance dressed in a green-hued shaman's attire heightens curiosity about the story of the shaman 'Yeori,' who rejects her fate. Furthermore, the image of the Imugi on the 'liability' in her hand suggests an inseparable bond between Yeori and Kang-cheol, adding to the intrigue. The spotlight is on Kim Ji-yeon's performance as a clear-spirited individual who captures the heart of the Imugi, raising questions about how their intertwined fate will unfold in the upcoming broadcast.
Meanwhile, the quotes featured in each character poster raise expectations for the 'hate to love romance.' In the poster of Yook Sung-jae, who embodies the 'first love nobleman,' there is a line stating, "You plan to return that guy's spirit? Nonsense!" and in Kim Ji-yeon's poster is a resolute statement, "My lady, I will definitely save you," allowing us to infer the continuous back-and-forth dynamic of their relationship revolving around body and spirit. This builds anticipation for the thrilling push-and-pull of the unprecedented 'Imugi and Shaman' hate-to-love couple, Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon.
Meanwhile, SBS, the drama kingdom, will uniquely present the fantasy historical romance comedy 'Haunted Palace' on April 18, 2025, at 9:50 p.m.
