'Divorce Insurance' has announced the beginning of a new concept office romantic comedy that guarantees both laughter and excitement.
tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Divorce Insurance' (directed by Lee Won-seok and Choi Bo-kyung, written by Lee Tae-yoon, planned by CJ ENM and Studio Genie, produced by Mongjaksso and Studio Mondo) aired its first episode to enthusiastic response on the 31st. No Gi-joon (played by Lee Dong-wook)'s Divorce Insurance project has been tumultuous from the start. Furthermore, 'ex-wife' Jeon Na-rae (played by Lee Da-hee) joined the task force team, adding curiosity to the development of a Divorce Insurance that is unlike anything else in the world.
The first episode of 'Divorce Insurance' captivated viewers with ratings of 3.6%, peaking at 5.1% for households in the metropolitan area, and an average of 3.2%, peaking at 4.3% for households nationwide, becoming the top-rated show in its time slot, including cable and comprehensive programming channels. (According to Nielsen Korea paid platforms)
The broadcast began with No Gi-joon, Kang Han-deul (played by Lee Joo-bin), Ahn Jeon-man (played by Lee Kwang-soo), and Jo Ah-young (played by Chu So-jung) promoting Divorce Insurance at a wedding fair and facing challenges. Just as they barely managed to escape, they were cautiously approached by a bride-to-be. When asked by the bride-to-be if the premise of Divorce Insurance that 'marriage leads to unhappiness' was correct, No Gi-joon replied, "It's actually the complete opposite. Both marriage and divorce aim for happiness."
The birth of this quirky and unconventional 'Divorce Insurance' traces back three months. No Gi-joon, despite being a genius actuary, struggled with every product the innovation product development team released. At that time, he was asked by the God of Insurance in a dream what the biggest disaster of his life was, to which he immediately thought of divorce. Gaining inspiration through the dream, No Gi-joon persuaded Head of Team Na Dae-bok (played by Kim Won-hae) to create Divorce Insurance, and coincidentally, Na Dae-bok, who was facing a divorce crisis, approved it. No Gi-joon then involved his close friend Ahn Jeon-man and kicked off the project.
Meanwhile, Kang Han-deul was adjusting to life after divorce. Jo Ah-young suggested to Kang Han-deul, who was silently fuming over her ex-husband's audacious attitude, to embrace her inner weirdo and bounce back with a smile. Dreaming of transforming into 'Bang-dol', Kang Han-deul resolved to remove the mattress that was tucked away in a corner of her home. As she struggled to move the mattress, she ran into No Gi-joon. The unexpected accident caused both of them to end up on the mattress, leading them to head to the police station even from their first encounter. No Gi-joon's boast, "The probability of us meeting again is lower than that of an albino raccoon being born," hinted at the destined relationship between them.
A massive recruitment notice for the Divorce Insurance task force team was posted by Plus Insurance. The preferable requirements included those who had experienced at least one divorce. Contrary to concerns, applicants flocked in endlessly. On the day of interviews for selecting the task force team, No Gi-joon was taken aback by the unexpectedly diverse stories of the applicants. Amidst this, an unexpected applicant appeared — the very couple who had experienced a twisted first meeting. Briefly flustered by the staggering coincidence, the couple quoted No Gi-joon, asserting that to successfully launch Divorce Insurance, a capable underwriter like themselves was necessary, and No Gi-joon reached out to them.
With No Gi-joon, Ahn Jeon-man, Na Dae-bok, and now Kang Han-deul and Jo Ah-young joining, the Divorce Insurance task force team was on the brink of officially setting sail. However, another surprising figure appeared to astonish No Gi-joon. Jeon Na-rae, a quant joining from the Singapore office, was not only No Gi-joon's 'ex-wife' but his 'ex-ex-wife'. Unlike the shocked team members, the chic reunion of the two hinted at the unusual journey of the Divorce Insurance task force team.
'Divorce Insurance' was thrilling from its first broadcast. The unique and witty direction by director Lee Won-seok, the innovative theme of Divorce Insurance, and the distinctive concept of writer Lee Tae-yoon infused with the fresh setting of an insurance company captivated viewers. The performances of trusted actors such as Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, and Lee Da-hee stood out prominently. Lee Dong-wook's delightful transformation, enhancing the charm of actuary No Gi-joon, drew attention from the first episode. Particularly, the playful interactions from the first showdown with Kang Han-deul and the witty back-and-forth with his 'true friend', Ahn Jeon-man, added to the enjoyment. Lee Joo-bin, who resonated with the ever-changing narrative of Kang Han-deul, also showcased her true talent. The remarkable performances of Lee Kwang-soo as the cautious and efficient risk surveyor Ahn Jeon-man, and Lee Da-hee as the lovable and quirky Jeon Na-rae, who exudes girl crush vibes, also shined.
