The global entertainment service Netflix series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' successfully concluded the event 'Well! When Life Gives You Tangerines Geumundong Village Festival.'
'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' which unfolds the adventure-filled life of 'the feisty rebel' Aesun and 'the oblivious iron' Gwan-sik, born in Jeju, gifted fans with a special time through the event 'Well! When Life Gives You Tangerines Geumundong Village Festival' held on March 30 (Sun) at Myunghwa Live Hall with IU, Park Bo-gum, Park Hae-joon, Oh Min-ae, Jang Hye-jin, Kang Yoo-seok, and Lee Soo-kyung.
The 'Well! When Life Gives You Tangerines Geumundong Village Festival' began the first part as an award ceremony and reading session where the winning works selected by writer Lim Sang-chun from the submissions of the 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' writing contest were directly read by the actors. The works, filled with the sincerity of the fans, narrated by IU, Park Bo-gum, Oh Min-ae, Jang Hye-jin, Kang Yoo-seok, Lee Soo-kyung, and a surprise appearance by Park Hae-joon, warmed the atmosphere of the venue. Additionally, writer Lim Sang-chun's unique judging commentary, which itself resembled a poem, added a special touch.
In the special GV of Part 2, various and intriguing stories about 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' unfolded under the direction of Movement representative Jin Myung-hyun. First, Jin noted, “Just like the audience, I too will not easily forget the countless nights filled with tears and laughter, and the faces that shone like stars in the work,” and began the GV. When asked about the feelings upon first reading the script of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' Lee Soo-kyung shared, “I started filming without having read the entire script, so I began watching the first episode with the same feelings as you all. I feel I love all the characters even more after watching the series than when I read it in the script.” Kang Yoo-seok expressed, “I thought it would be a story that everyone, regardless of age or gender, could relate to. I have a strong memory of crying a lot when we started reading episodes 3 and 4 during the reading day. I think those feelings were well conveyed to you all.” As they portrayed characters who endured the tumultuous seasons of life, Jang Hye-jin mentioned the character she was most grateful for, saying, “Actor Choi Dae-hoon, who played 'Sang-gil,' acted so well and prepared thoroughly that I felt honored to have acted alongside him” indicating the perfect chemistry between the two actors that brought the delightful relationship of 'Sang-gil' and 'Yeong-ran' to life. Oh Min-ae noted, “I received so much help from those who took care of the makeup. Every time I got into the makeup truck, I was reborn as 'Gye-ok'. Today, I want to credit the makeup team,” revealing that the realistic makeup in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' became an important factor for her immersion as an actor.
IU, Park Bo-gum, and Park Hae-joon, who delivered touching emotions to viewers around the world while portraying 'Aesun' and 'Gwan-sik,' expressed, “I cherish every character I portray, but the role of 'Aesun' is one that I feel I will treasured like a precious medal deep in my heart for a long time. It was such an honorable character,” (IU) added, “I hope that through 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' I will become a wonderful adult, leaving behind a beautiful fragrance. I felt so happy to learn diligence and warmth through ‘Gwan-sik,’” (Park Bo-gum) and “I think living for others is, in a way, a way to protect oneself. I was able to learn through 'Gwan-sik' the process of understanding those around me through personal love. I think this will be a work that I will revisit when I lose my way in life,” (Park Hae-joon) sharing their meaningful impressions of what they felt as individuals and as actors through 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'
In closing, Lee Soo-kyung stated, “I was honored to be able to portray 'Hyun-sook,' and I consider it a blessing to have this opportunity and am grateful,” while Kang Yoo-seok shared, “I am afraid of this work ending; I haven't seen Act 4 yet. I was so thankful to portray 'Eun-myeong.' I would like to dedicate this work to all 'Eun-myeong' in the world.” Jang Hye-jin expressed, “Thank you for coming all the way. I feel each of your hearts, making it all the more touching.” Oh Min-ae remarked, “You are 'Aesun' and 'Gwan-sik.' I hope you will continue to live confidently and well in the future,” while Park Hae-joon noted, “I often hope that Act 4 won't be the end. I wish you could keep it close in your heart and start the next day well.” Park Bo-gum said, “Thank you to everyone who made the precious trek. Through 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' I hope beautiful flowers bloom in your lives every day. All of you, 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,'” and IU concluded, “I believe our work is not just sad, but allows you to feel many emotions, ultimately leaving a smile. I hope it remains a work you can remember as something you can enjoy for a long time,” wrapping up the event of 'Well! When Life Gives You Tangerines Geumundong Village Festival.'
