"Karma" Lee Kwang-soo revealed his desire for a villain role.
On the morning of the 31st, the production presentation for the Netflix original series "Karma" took place at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Jongno, Seoul. Director Lee Il-hyung and actors Park Hae-soo, Shin Min-a, Lee Hee-joon, Kim Sung-kyun, Lee Kwang-soo, and Gong Seung-yeon attended the event.
"Karma" is a crime thriller that depicts the intertwined stories of six individuals caught in a karmic relationship they wish to escape from but can't.
Lee Kwang-soo plays the role of 'An-kyung-nam,' a successful oriental medicine doctor who, after a mistake he made inadvertently leads to a major incident, attempts to cover it up. He said, "I wanted to express well the process of An-kyung-nam becoming increasingly desperate and petty after the incident. I wanted to reveal the pitiful aspects of the character when placed in extreme situations," indicating a transformation in his acting style that differs from his previous roles.
He continued, "I have always mentioned in interviews that I wanted to try playing a villain. In a way, I feel like I have properly realized that dream through 'Karma,' so I want to thank the director once again." He added, "Due to spoilers, I don't know how much I can share, but anyway, I achieved my dream of wanting to play a villain through 'Karma.'"
Gong Seung-yeon, who plays the girlfriend "Yoo-jung," who colludes in the cover-up of the incident involving 'An-kyung-nam,' also embarked on a new transformation. She said, "It was very awkward. I worried a lot about embodying the femme fatale charm of Yoo-jung. The makeup and wardrobe teams helped a lot. I was called Yoo-jung on set, and as time went on, I became accustomed to my character, which made it easier for me to act. At the end, when I was filming with Kwang-soo, it felt like I was also fulfilling my dream. I think I am quite similar to him." In response, Lee Kwang-soo added, "For us, 'Karma' is like Santa Claus," further heightening anticipation.
Meanwhile, "Karma" is set to premiere on Netflix on April 4th.
