Lee Hak-joo became a variable in the romance of Lee Sun-bin and Kang Tae-oh.
The 9th episode of tvN's weekend drama 'The Potato Lab' (directed by Kang Il-soo and Shim Jae-hyun, written by Kim Ho-soo, planned by CJ ENM Studios, produced by Chorokbaem Media) brought a crisis for Kim Mi-kyung (played by Lee Sun-bin) and So Baek-ho (played by Lee Hak-joo). The scene where So Baek-ho discovers Park Gi-se (played by Lee Hak-joo) crying on Kim Mi-kyung's shoulder after a regretful confession indicated a precarious shift in their relationship.
On that day, Kim Mi-kyung faced Park Gi-se and Yoon Hee-jin (played by Jeong Sin-hye) and recalled memories from six years ago. She remembered Yoon Hee-jin's name written on the invitation that Park Gi-se handed over when he broke up with her. As she attempted to gather her thoughts, So Baek-ho appeared before Kim Mi-kyung, whose emotions were still raw. Despite appearing cold and indifferent, So Baek-ho's consideration for Kim Mi-kyung served as a significant comfort to her.
The events that stirred Kim Mi-kyung's heart continued. When Kim Mi-kyung accidentally encountered Yoon Hee-jin, her emotions became even more complicated. Yoon Hee-jin, unaware of Kim Mi-kyung and Park Gi-se's relationship, mentioned that she had been happiest six years ago. It was tough for Kim Mi-kyung to realize that the time she wanted to erase held happy memories for Yoon Hee-jin. Despite knowing that Kim Mi-kyung was lying about having a prior engagement, So Baek-ho could not bring himself to hold her back.
So Baek-ho felt anxious about Kim Mi-kyung's apparent change, as if she were avoiding him. Although So Baek-ho struggled to suppress his desire to know everything about the one he cared for, he eventually revealed his hurt feelings. However, it was also So Baek-ho who grounded Kim Mi-kyung’s wavering heart. So Baek-ho expressed his genuine feelings with a surprise proposal in the potato flower garden that Kim Mi-kyung loved, and their subsequent kiss added to the deepening romance, heightening the excitement.
Kim Mi-kyung's past threw another brake on their romance. She found herself at the funeral home upon learning of Park Gi-se's father's passing. Confronted with his deeply buried true feelings, Park Gi-se acknowledged that he could not erase Kim Mi-kyung from his life throughout their marriage, and his union with Yoon Hee-jin ultimately ended in divorce. As he realized his true feelings, regret flooded Park Gi-se. He tearfully confessed to Kim Mi-kyung that he regretted letting her go. Kim Mi-kyung's heart crumbled at Park Gi-se's admission that he regretted the breakup, which had caused her so much pain. Unable to push Park Gi-se away as he buried his face in her shoulder and cried, Kim Mi-kyung was caught in a moment unexpectedly witnessed by So Baek-ho, whose expression hardened. Curiosity grows about how the entangled pasts of Kim Mi-kyung, So Baek-ho, and Park Gi-se will alter the course of their romance.
