A legendary celebrity family appeared on 'What Do You Do When You Play?', bringing laughter. It was none other than the mother of comedian Im Woo-il.
The MBC variety program 'What Do You Do When You Play?' (abbreviated as 'WDP') aired the segment 'My Friend's Table' on the 29th. Consequently, Yu Jae-seok and Ha Ha met Im Woo-il.
On that day, the third restaurant recommended by Im Woo-il was a family home, specifically his family home. Yu Jae-seok and Ha Ha were quite nervous upon encountering a motherly housewife who welcomed them into her APT. After seeing a photo of Im Woo-il in the home, they were surprised and bent to greet her, asking, "Is this Woo-il's mother?" Yu Jae-seok expressed concern, saying, "What should we do coming empty-handed?" However, Im Woo-il's mother cheerfully responded, "I invited you."
Im Woo-il's mother shyly introduced, "I made gimbap." Contrary to her humble expression, Im Woo-il's mother's gimbap was said to be so popular that it was well-known among Im Woo-il's comedian colleagues. Im Woo-il added, "It's gimbap that you can't find anywhere else," raising expectations.
Im Woo-il's mother, saying it was her "first time on a broadcast," showcased a straightforward and delightful sense of humor. Upon seeing the broadcast schedule written on a small whiteboard in her home, Im Woo-il was moved, saying, "You even made time to catch me on reruns," to which Im Woo-il's mother replied, "No. I don't watch dramas. So, I wrote down the times for programs like 'It's a Relief If You Don't Fight,'" causing laughter.
Yu Jae-seok and Ha Ha laughed out loud, saying, "Woo-il, why are you doing this? Why are you trying to create forced emotions?" Im Woo-il, however, appeared hurt and said, "I genuinely got emotional," adding to the laughter with the reality of his mother's broadcast schedule.
Meanwhile, Im Woo-il revealed his mother's dedication as he said, "Im Mo Sam Cheon Ji Gyo," referring to their repeated moves for his education. Im Woo-il's mother then responded, "That's not it. He just wasn't good at studying," exposing Im Woo-il's grades. She added, "I received permission from the education office to create a study room. But he said he needed to take a second year of exams. He had to attend an academy in Noryangjin, which took one hour there and one hour back. So, we sold the house and moved to a rental near the academy," shocking everyone.
The special gimbap made by Im Woo-il's mother was 'Vietnamese rice paper gimbap.' It is said to be exquisite and unique, with boiled pork wrapped in special sauce and an abundance of vegetables, just like gimbap.
However, throughout the meal, Im Woo-il's mother's attachment to the broadcast schedule, which she thought was for herself, captured their attention. Consequently, Im Woo-il and Ha Ha couldn't hold back their laughter. Particularly, Im Woo-il expressed, "Honestly, I cried while drinking with my juniors," feeling dejected. However, his mother remarked, "Not at all. There's nothing about you," adding to the laughter, and Im Woo-il retorted, "I think I might delete it."
Yet, Im Woo-il's mother made it a point to watch 'What Do You Do When You Play?' She praised Ha Ha, saying, "It's interesting because Ha Ha makes it fun." In response, Ha Ha said, "The grand award goes to my brother," sounding a bit bitter, while Yu Jae-seok reacted, "Why do you say it like that?" adding to the laughter.
Im Woo-il, who remarked, "Please don't bring up uncomfortable topics at someone else's house," was actually the recipient of the popularity award at the '2024 MBC Entertainment Awards.' During his acceptance speech, he emotionally mentioned his mother, touching hearts. However, his mother humorously commented, "I heard there would be an opening act. So I was watching that and something else," making everyone laugh.
Despite everything, his mother stated, "He never causes trouble. I give him his allowance once a month without fail." Nonetheless, she added, "I don't give him anything else. I don't ask for more," causing uproarious laughter as she quickly stood up.
