The departure rumor of actor Byun Woo-seok from the drama '21st Century Grande dame' has been revealed to be untrue.
On the 28th, a representative from Byun Woo-seok's agency, Baro Entertainment, said to OSEN, "The rumor about actor Byun Woo-seok departing from MBC's new drama '21st Century Grande dame' is unfounded."
Earlier that morning, a media outlet reported, quoting broadcasting officials, that both Byun Woo-seok and singer-songwriter and actress IU, who play the male and female leads in '21st Century Grande dame', would depart. As the scheduling of '21st Century Grande dame' has been raised from year-end to the possibility of early next year, it is reported that MBC and the production company Kakao Entertainment are discussing OTT scheduling with Disney+, while the leading cast that requested Netflix scheduling has expressed their intention to depart.
However, a representative from Byun Woo-seok's side told OSEN, "The rumor about actor Byun Woo-seok departing from '21st Century Grande dame' is not true. There has been no discussion regarding his departure, and he plans to participate in the project as scheduled." However, IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, has not been reachable.
'21st Century Grande dame' is a work that depicts a class-dismantling romance set in a fictional background of a constitutional monarchy in the 21st century South Korea, featuring a girl who possesses everything as a chaebol but is merely a commoner, and a sad man who, despite being the king's son, can possess nothing. IU is cast as the second daughter, Seong Hee-joo, of the chaebol family ranked first in business, who is born with a silver spoon and possesses beauty, intelligence, and a fierce competitive spirit, while Byun Woo-seok is cast as Iaan, a prince in the 21st century constitutional monarchy. The drama is considered a highly anticipated work in broadcasting.
