'Lobby' Kim Eung-sung mentioned his plans to retire as an actor.
'Lobby' (director Ha Jung-woo, produced by Workhouse Company and Film Momentum, provided by Michigan Venture Capital Co., Ltd. and WYSIWYG STUDIOS Co., Ltd., distributed by SHOWBOX) depicts the story of Changu (played by Ha Jung-woo), a startup CEO who only knows research, as he begins his first lobbying golf to secure a national project worth 4 trillion won. Ha Jung-woo, who made his directorial debut with 'Roller Coaster' in 2013, presents his third directorial work after 'Huh Sam-kwan' (2015) in ten years.
Ha Jung-woo plays Changu, a startup CEO who only knows research and aims to win with technology; Park Byeong-eun portrays his rival company CEO Kwang-woo, who wins business through lobbying; Kim Eung-sung plays Choi, a veteran public servant and political power broker; Kang Hae-rim takes on the role of pro golfer Jin; Lee Dong-hwi is journalist Park, who arranges lobbying; Choi Si-won plays the national actor Matthew; Cha Joo-young is the golf club's owner, Dami; Kwak Sun-young serves as Kim, who assists Changu; and Kang Mal-geum plays the ambitious yet corrupt Minister Jo, who is not interested in practical matters.
Kim Eung-sung received much love early this year with Netflix's 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' and met viewers through the Tving variety show 'Kim Eung-sung's Alcoholic City'. He is also anticipating the release of the Disney+ series 'Fine'.
When asked to compare the character of 'scumbag' Yong-seok from 'Train to Busan' and the character Choi from 'Lobby', he noted, "I originally liked Yong-seok, but I found it hard to understand starting from the moment he pushed someone in the bathroom. It was like, 'Wow, this is a bit much.' I could not fully understand Choi until the end, and even if I could not forgive him, I could sufficiently understand him and felt sorry for him," adding, "If I were to play golf with a friend like Choi, I would probably say, 'Why don't you just keep quiet?' (laughs) I thought he was the most interesting person I've ever portrayed."
Kim Eung-sung is currently training juniors as the head of his agency 'AN Company' and confessed he has thoughts about his future self in ten years, saying, "I want to stop acting as a profession. I hope that one day I can do only what I love. If I can make enough money so that I don't have to act for a living, it would be nice to pursue projects solely driven by passion. I have such plans."
He expressed a desire, saying, "I want to pursue projects outside of commercial success. At this moment, I cannot ignore commercial aspects. I want to freely choose works beyond that and create more artistic films."
In response to a joking question, "Then who plays the 'scumbag' character in our country?" he replied, "That's why I'm able to earn a living fairly easily. (laughs) While you can look at it as a genre of 'scumbag', there's also the perspective of it being a genre of evil characters. It would be fun to battle them, even if I'm not a lead actor. It's good when it enriches the plot or the work." He smiled.
Meanwhile, 'Lobby' is set to be released on April 2.
