The family of the late actor Kim Sae-ron revealed at a press conference that evidence of her underage relationship with Kim Soo-hyun was presented alongside a claim that she attempted self-harm following a certified letter from her former agency, Gold Medalist.
On the afternoon of the 27th, the family's legal representative, Law Firm Buyou attorney Bu Ji-seok, and Garosero Research Institute representative Kim Se-ui held a press conference at the Space Share Gangnam Station center in Seocho District, Seoul, and disclosed evidence that the late Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship for six years since they were minors.
Previously, the family of the late Kim Sae-ron claimed through the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" (abbreviated as "Gaseyeon") that the deceased had been in a relationship with actor Kim Soo-hyun since the age of 15 for six years, and that despite facing hardship after the deceased was involved in a drunk driving accident in 2022, they were pressured to repay 700 million won borrowed for accident recovery.
In response, Kim Soo-hyun's agency Gold Medalist admitted that Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun had a relationship, but stated that they only dated from the summer of 2019 to fall 2020 when they were both adults. The agency argued that the certified letter was merely a legal process for handling the penalty related to Kim Sae-ron's drunk driving accident and asserted that they had never made any substantial demands for repayment.
Regarding this, attorney Bu Ji-seok noted, "The family wishes to put an end to the controversy by presenting evidence. Let me be clear, this press conference is not for revealing the reasons why Kim Sae-ron chose to end her life, and I want to say that after today, the family no longer wants meaningless battles over the truth."
The disclosed materials included KakaoTalk messages exchanged between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron from 2016, messages Kim Sae-ron exchanged with friends after receiving the certified letter, and messages exchanged with an acquaintance referred to as person A, whom Kim Sae-ron called "fake aunt."
In messages exchanged with friends last March after receiving the certified letter, Kim Sae-ron said, "If I applied knowing, I have nothing but just go commit suicide, right?" and her friend replied, "It's not 70 million won but 700 million? This is really not okay," and asked, "Did you really get a reply from your ex-boyfriend?"
In response, Kim Sae-ron claimed, "I haven't received anything," and added, "The contract states that the company must pay 30% out of a 70:30 split, but they made me sign the contract so that I would have to cover 100%, which was a scam against me."
Attorney Bu Ji-seok particularly revealed a photo taken on April 13 last year showing Kim Sae-ron's self-harm, explaining, "I am reluctantly disclosing this photo to show what Kim Sae-ron's state of mind was like after receiving the certified letter."
Furthermore, attorney Bu noted, "The family contacted a suicide prevention center and is aware that she had cut her wrist. What parent could remain still knowing this? What parent could lie around the house for monetary reasons? Even if Kim Soo-hyun or YouTuber B is not directly responsible, what parent could really sit idly at home knowing this?"
In addition, attorney Bu revealed a handwritten letter Kim Sae-ron intended to send to Kim Soo-hyun, stating, "We've known each other for about 5 to 6 years. This expression of first love appears," and said, "I intended to deliver it in early April last year after receiving the certified letter, but I could not deliver it because the APT. is a place that not just anyone can enter."
The disclosed letter included content where Kim Sae-ron wrote, "It seems that we have known each other for about 5 to 6 years. I hope you won’t avoid me since this is both my first and last love."
