Ailee, dubbed 'Wheesung's favorite student', shared her thoughts on the music she has wanted to do since her debut and the message contained in her new album, 'Memoir' ((Me)moir).

On the 26th, Ailee appeared on MBC FM4U's 'Kim Ah-ni's Starry Night' and noted, "The pop R&B genre filled in the new album is music I have been doing since before my debut," adding, "It feels like I am going back to my roots."

Ailee explained, "When I wanted to do pop R&B music after my debut, I was told, 'Make a name for yourself, and then do the music you want.' Now, I felt I had to, and finally seized that opportunity."

That day, Ailee performed the title track 'MMI' live, then asked DJ Kim Ina, "Doesn't this sound seem to fit my original character better?" Kim Ina, who knows Ailee well, responded, "This is Ailee's original character."

Ailee discussed her album 'Memoir', saying, "I wanted to show a different side of myself, and it reflects a relaxed vibe that is easy to listen to. My biggest goal was to create easy-to-listen songs," adding, "This album was made with a message I wanted to convey through music I love, so it is like an 'autobiography' album."

Regarding her collaboration with producer Pidock, Ailee noted, "I didn't have a close relationship with him before," and added, "During our meetings in the recording studio, he played many songs, and I gathered all the best tracks. 'MMI' was originally not for a solo but for a group. He sent several songs later, and I selected three of the best for the album."

Ailee shared about the title track 'MMI', saying, "I think there was a time when I wasn't able to truly love myself," explaining further, "People often say, 'You must love yourself,' but I think I wasn't quite sure how to do that. I need to constantly remind myself, 'I am precious. I am perfect. I am beautiful.' This seems to gradually make me stronger, like calluses form over time. I included that message in the song."

That day, Ailee sang songs with English lyrics and talked about the emotional differences she wanted to convey, as well as musical stories about her tracks 'Illusion' and 'Meaning,' and shared miscellaneous aspects of her daily life, including how she experienced forearm pain while playing games recently.
