Actors Shin Min-a and Kim Woo-bin contributed to recovery efforts for the large wildfires that spread across the country.
The Korea Red Cross (Chairman Kim Cheol-soo) announced on the 27th that actor Shin Min-a donated 50 million won for the recovery from the large wildfire damage that occurred in various regions across the country, including Sancheong, Gyeongnam, Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, and Ulju, Ulsan.
Shin Min-a said, "I hope this provides a small comfort to those affected by the wildfires," and added, "I wish safety to all the firefighters and relief workers who are working on the scene."
On the same day, actor Kim Woo-bin also donated 50 million won for the recovery from the large wildfires that occurred in various regions including Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, Ulsan, Gangbuk, and Gangwon.
Kim Woo-bin said, "I hope this provides some comfort to the residents affected by the wildfires," and expressed gratitude to the firefighters working to extinguish the fires and the volunteers and officials helping those displaced.
Kim Woo-bin, who began donating anonymously in 2014 to support low-income youth, has consistently supported pediatric cancer patients and marginalized communities for 11 years.
In particular, as of now, Kim Woo-bin's total donations have exceeded 1.1 billion won, and he has naturally joined the donation efforts whenever social disasters such as COVID-19, wildfires, and flood damage occur.
Kim Cheol-soo, chairman of the Korea Red Cross, expressed gratitude by saying, "I am thankful for Kim Woo-bin's warm contributions," and added, "The precious donations will be quickly allocated for wildfire recovery efforts."
The recent wildfires began on the 21st in the Sancheong area of Gyeongnam and have spread rapidly to regions such as Gyeongbuk and Ulsan due to strong winds and dry weather.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of 9 a.m. on the 27th, 37,185 people have been displaced and 56 casualties have been reported due to the wildfires in 10 regions, and the extent and scale of the damage continues to increase, with 325 facilities damaged.
Since the wildfires began on the 21st, the Korea Red Cross has been conducting emergency relief activities for firefighters and those displaced for the past seven days at wildfire damage sites across the country.
As of the 25th, 1,212 employees and volunteers are active on-site, providing relief supplies such as 1,268 emergency relief kits, 4,865 blankets, 349 shelters, and 56,985 bottles of water and other items.
Additionally, meal support is being provided to 24,800 firefighters and displaced individuals, and disaster psychological counseling has been conducted for 795 people. Furthermore, 13 pieces of relief equipment, including mobile catering vehicles, recovery support vehicles, mobile shower vehicles, and relief support vehicles, are also active on-site.
