The behind-the-scenes story of actress Lee Hye-young's casting for "The Old Woman with the Knife" has been revealed.
On the morning of the 27th, a production report for the film "The Old Woman with the Knife" (director Min Kyu-dong) took place at Lotte Cinema in the Gwangjin district of Seoul. Director Min Kyu-dong and actors Lee Hye-young and Kim Sung-cheol attended the event to share their thoughts.
"The Old Woman with the Knife" is an action drama depicting the intense confrontation between Jo-gak (played by Lee Hye-young), a legendary killer who has worked for over 40 years in an organization that deals with cockroach-like humans, and Tu-u (played by Kim Sung-cheol), a mysterious killer who has pursued him his entire life.
Previously, Lee Hye-young drew attention with her comment about casting for "The Old Woman with the Knife," saying, "I was cast because I didn’t get Botox." She remarked, "There are many good actors around my age in Korea. I wondered, 'Why me?' But while filming, I realized it might have been because I didn't get Botox. Now that it's finished, I’m thinking of getting it done," which drew laughter.
Director Min Kyu-dong explained, "When I saw Lee Hye-young in the theater as a child, she was a mysterious presence to me. She was enigmatic and not easily understood. Although she shares the same blood with us, there were many intriguing times when she didn’t feel Korean. This film requires a character who can embody rare figures, which made me want to meet her."
He noted, "I thought that someone with the aura of a classic film could create an impression beyond the text. I felt a fateful moment that was hard to express in words when I first met her. Isn’t it said that you can recognize someone in just three seconds? There was a tremor and strength, and I felt a lingering curiosity about her. I wondered how wonderful it would be if the energy aura that carries the traces of her life could blend into the movie and be conveyed to the audience. I had these thoughts during our first meeting."
In particular, Director Min Kyu-dong expressed his affection, saying, "It felt as if she had been preparing for a long time. It seemed like she had been running toward today for a very long time."
Meanwhile, "The Old Woman with the Knife" is set to be released in theaters on May 1.
