The SBS program “Connecting the Dots: The Story of That Day” revisits the little-known fire tragedy of the Cheonan Elementary School soccer team, conveying the heartbreaking stories of promising soccer players whose dreams were thwarted due to adult negligence.

The 168th episode of “Connecting the Dots: The Story of That Day” (directed by Lee Geun-byeol, Lee Dong-won, and Ko Hye-rin, hereafter referred to as “Kkokkumu”), airing today (27th), addresses the fire incident involving the Cheonan Elementary School soccer team, which resulted in 25 casualties, revealing the heartbreaking stories of children who tried to hold onto their dreams even in the worst situations. This episode features actor Park Byung-eun, K-pop group Tomorrow X Together member Soobin, and singer Baek Ji-young as listeners, reportedly crying throughout the broadcast, leading to the recording being halted.

In particular, the appearance of the last survivor, Yoon Jang-ho (who was a 6th grader at the time), leaves the listeners speechless with tears. Baek Ji-young bursts into tears upon seeing Yoon Jang-ho, who suffered from severe burns. He expresses his sorrow by stating, “I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that the children went through,” revealing his broken heart concerning the tragic stories.

After the fire that day, his mother said, “Jang-ho, there was a fire at the dormitory. Many friends have left.” Additionally, Yoon Jang-ho, who was suffering from extreme pain due to burns, shares, “I begged my mom to let me die because I was okay,” recounting the hellish time. Soobin, who was listening, reportedly wept quietly, sharing in the pain that the elementary school students had to endure. Moreover, the broadcast will unveil stories related to the Cheonan Elementary School soccer uniforms that honor the nine children who became stars in the sky, expected to evoke deep emotions.

The “Kkokkumu” production team said, “This week, we will deal with the dreams of the children from the prestigious ‘Cheonan Elementary’ soccer team. On the day before (26th), marking the 22nd anniversary of the Cheonan fire tragedy, we are grateful to share behind-the-scenes stories about the fire incident and the survivors that have not been well known until now. We hope everyone takes a moment to remember the sacrificed children and those who are still dreaming.”
