Actress Lee Hye-young shared her thoughts on performing action in "The Old Woman with the Knife."
On the morning of the 27th, a production briefing for the film "The Old Woman with the Knife" (directed by Min Kyung-dong) took place at Lotte Cinema Gondae in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Director Min Kyung-dong and actors Lee Hye-young and Kim Sung-cheol attended the briefing and shared their insights.
"The Old Woman with the Knife" is an action drama depicting the intense confrontation between legendary killer Jo-gak (played by Lee Hye-young), who has been active for over 40 years in an organization dealing with cockroach-like humans, and the mysterious killer Tu-woo (played by Kim Sung-cheol), who has pursued him all his life.
On this day, when asked about his collaboration with Lee Hye-young, Kim Sung-cheol noted, "I was happy during every shoot. I was especially happy shooting with you, teacher, but watching the monitor? It feels like a dream. I thought a lot about that. You keep showing me a realm I dare not approach. I thought about wanting to become a good elder, too."
In response, Lee Hye-young said, "Hearing Sung-cheol say this gave me strength, and I worked harder. What was difficult was that there have been so many action films until now, and while I have watched many action films, the killer roles often pass without having a chance to think about morality and ethics. Our film is very different in that regard. It makes you think."
He said, "The action wasn't just about 'I'm in an action movie,' where I prepared my body and acted like an action star. Because I had to execute the action as it suddenly came, with this body and this expression, I couldn’t prepare for it. That was tough. So, I sustained many injuries. Since I wasn't prepared beforehand, injuries came easily during the action. The martial arts director worked hard, and if there were no stunts, such scenes could not have happened. I am very grateful, and the editing was done very well." He then asked, "Are you okay now?" and replied, "Of course. I'm all healed."
Meanwhile, "The Old Woman with the Knife" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1.
