(Following interview②) Actor Ryu Jun-yeol shared his thoughts on collaborating with Shin Hyun-bin through "Revelations."
On the morning of the 26th, an interview with actor Ryu Jun-yeol, the lead in the Netflix film "Revelations" (directed by Yeon Sang-ho), took place at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
"Revelations" is a work that portrays the story of a pastor who believes that punishing the culprit in a missing persons case is a divine revelation and a detective assigned to the case who is tormented by the spirit of a deceased sibling, as they each pursue their beliefs.
On that day, Ryu Jun-yeol said about his collaboration with Shin Hyun-bin, "We didn’t talk much about the work. Generally, actors don’t often talk about acting with each other. I feel most comfortable being the younger sibling. It’s most comfortable to be able to complain and mess around with older brothers, while younger siblings are awkward, and the most uncomfortable is being someone of the same age. It’s neither this nor that," adding, "I’m not sure if this is the right expression, but Hyun-bin is very amiable, and everyone he works with really likes him. So, regardless of being the same age or seniors and juniors, he was such a nice person that I was able to film comfortably. I only have fond memories of filming as he made it so comfortable that I wondered if it was okay to be this relaxed."
In particular, regarding Shin Hyun-bin's transformation into a short haircut for the work, Ryu Jun-yeol said, "At first, I didn’t recognize her. I was there to shoot my part, and (Shin Hyun-bin) had shot just before that, but I had no idea and spent time waiting. I suddenly greeted the person with a short haircut and thought, 'So this friend was Hyun-bin.' I thought it must not have been easy to decide on the short haircut, but I think it really suited her. I remember being very happy because the character’s appearance was expressed in a way that matched better than any other work. When other co-stars expressed the character well too, it felt like my movie, bringing a certain joy. I was very happy."
On the other hand, regarding actor Shin Min-jae, who resembles director Yeon Sang-ho, Ryu Jun-yeol expressed, "I’m so envious." He remarked, "The director must have a greater affection for him than for me. It’s human instinct to feel a certain affinity for someone who resembles you. When I was studying art, drawing a plaster figure often ended up looking like my own face. It’s not just me; others also strangely draw themselves. I think it’s a human instinct, and in that regard, I feel like Min-jae received special affection. I have that envy in that sense."
He continued, "I can't help but mention the synergy in the action scenes. He was very considerate. We usually don’t talk about these things, but he said, 'I’m fine, but if you have any discomfort, feel free to tell me at any time.' He was able to accommodate my understanding of the project as much as possible, which is memorable. Just hearing those words gives me a relief from the burden without having to act that way. He was very considerate, and I still appreciate it." (To be continued in interview④.)
