The tumultuous adaptation of Siu-min to modern life has begun.
On the 24th (Monday) and 25th (Tuesday), the drama "Heo's Diner" (directed by Oh Hwan-min and Kim Kyung-eun, written by Seong So-hyun) released episodes 1 and 2, depicting the problematic character Heo-kyun (played by Siu-min) who travels from the Joseon Dynasty 400 years into the future, opening the gates to an exciting time-slip narrative.
First, Heo-kyun made a strong entrance as a character with free-spirited thoughts that are not suited for the times. The transcendent genius Heo-kyun, who never forgets what he has seen once, has lived a awakened life, making food for hungry people and playing with children in the river while shedding his status.
Among them, Heo-kyun extended a helping hand by providing meals to the neglected old man (played by Woo-hyeon). However, the old man left a significant remark to Heo-kyun, saying, "Do you not know my situation that you pity anyone? Be grateful that you survived at a low price," drawing attention.
Meanwhile, Heo-kyun's friend and colleague Yi-i-cheom (played by Lee Se-on) intentionally sent him into exile for not moving as he wished. On the other hand, during his exile, Heo-kyun learned of Yi-cheom's chilling scheme from his beloved performer Mae-chang (played by Lee Su-min). After hearing the news that his friends would be implicated in treason, Heo-kyun escaped from exile but was captured by an assassin (played by Oh Ji-ho) sent by Yi-cheom. In the face of death, Heo-kyun vanished without a trace due to a time slip, leaving viewers breathless.
Unbeknownst to him, Heo-kyun, who time slipped into the modern era, arrived in front of a eatery without a sign, where he encountered Bong-eun-sil (played by Chu So-jung). The first one to discover Heo-kyun, who had lost his way, was Eun-sil, who felt empathy for him. However, Eun-sil misunderstood Heo-kyun, who was lingering around the eatery, as a homeless person after getting food from her mother (played by Kim Hee-jung). This misunderstanding added intrigue to the relationship that began as antagonistic.
On the other hand, Heo-kyun instinctively realized that the space he was in was not Joseon. Confused by the reality that was distinctly different from Joseon, Heo-kyun encountered Lee-hyeok (played by Lee Se-on), who resembled Yi-cheom from Joseon, and expressed his delight, but Lee-hyeok showed discomfort at Heo-kyun's behavior.
Eun-sil was not pleased with Heo-kyun's return to the eatery, but had to clash with him continuously after he started working at the restaurant on her mother's suggestion. Heo-kyun realized that there is no class distinction in modern society while attending to customers. Additionally, his bewildering antics upon encountering modern inventions like refrigerators elicited laughter.
At the end of the broadcast, Heo-kyun learned that the place he was staying was not Joseon, leaving him in shock. Composing himself, he headed to the eatery but witnessed a bloody accident involving Eun-sil, which heightened tension among everyone around. With the unpredictable development of what would happen next to Heo-kyun, who had crash-landed in modernity, viewers eagerly anticipated the next episode.
With the fascinating character play and a feast of diverse foods, "Heo's Diner" captivated viewers' time. It was co-planned by Why Not Media, Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures, and Corpus Japan, produced by The Great Show, and the third episode will be released on the 31st (Monday) at 5 p.m. on Netflix and Wavve, at 7 p.m. on Watcha and Tving, and at 9 p.m. on MBN Plus.
