Singer and actor Jisoo has shared her thoughts on the conclusion of 'Newtopia.'
Jisoo played the role of Yongju, a character with courage and determination, in the Coupang Play series 'Newtopia,' which concluded on the 21st. She portrayed 'Jaeyun (played by Park Jeong-min)' who is unwavering in his love, even against zombies, leading a tense narrative until the end.
Jisoo, who showed a new face and transformation through 'Newtopia,' noted through her agency BLISSOO, "I feel honored to be part of this precious project with many talented actors and staff."
Jisoo further expressed her affection for the character, saying, "While living as Yongju, I had many opportunities to reflect on precious things I had forgotten, so I am thankful for Yongju, and I will continue to support her! I hope many viewers of 'Newtopia' will run toward hope without hesitation, and please continue to support Yongju!"
In the drama, Jisoo drew viewers in with the temperature difference between thrills and a poignant narrative suited to the 'zombie romantic comedy' genre, while her fearless action offered exhilarating enjoyment. She also showcased her survival skills and resourcefulness as she gradually grew, using items such as a chainsaw and a kickboard, adding excitement and fun.
As the latter part unfolded, Jisoo deepened her expression of emotions, portraying the Yongju character who, having let go of her teammates, rushes single-handedly to Jaeyun. In Episode 7, she conveyed intense emotional shifts with a terrified expression upon encountering a group of villains, maximizing the tension.
In the final Episode 8, Yongju, who finally reunited with Jaeyun after breaking through the zombies, formed one team and began another journey. Having defeated even more zombies single-handedly than Jaeyun, Yongju expressed, "You won't imagine it. What I've been through," with a composed tone. The zombie crisis was still ongoing, but having confirmed a more solid love in the meantime, he delivered a steady promise with a confident and hopeful smile, saying, "I will protect you," creating a deeply resonant ending.
Meanwhile, Jisoo successfully released her new mini-album 'AMORTAGE' last month, achieving great results on global music charts with the title track 'earthquake.' She is currently conducting the successful 2025 fan meeting tour 'LIGHTS, LOVE, ACTION!' across seven Asian cities including Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, Macau, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Hanoi.
Additionally, she is expected to continue her dynamic acting activities, appearing in the film 'The Reader Perspective' set to release in July and the Netflix series 'Monthly Boyfriend.'
