Ricky Kim, who suddenly disappeared from the entertainment industry, shared updates on his life as a missionary.
Recently, a video titled "Please call me 'missionary' instead of 'actor'" was posted on the YouTube channel CGN.
In the released video, Ricky Kim appeared as a guest, stating, "I am diligently raising three children. The eldest is 14 years old, the second is 12 years old, and the youngest has turned 10."
Regarding the reason for stopping his broadcasting activities, Ricky Kim explained, "Many people are curious, 'Why did you quit broadcasting?' but I just took a break. Now, I am active as a missionary. I was curious about what it means to engage in missionary work and was studying and trying to gradually change the direction of my life."
He also shared what led him to become a missionary. Ricky Kim said, "There were questions like, 'Was broadcasting not good?' I wanted to be a good person regardless of that. I grew up poor and wanted to earn money, and my father did not graduate high school and passed away early in his 30s, which was heartbreaking."
He continued, "After debuting as a celebrity, I found myself engaged in broadcasting activities, but I was increasingly swayed by popularity, fame, and money. Although I was given the heart to be the light and salt in the entertainment industry, when I looked at myself, I realized I was only thinking about popularity and the future. That’s when I made the decision. I thought I couldn't live like this. From 2013 to 2015, that thought persisted, so I decided that broadcasting and money were meaningless. I just stopped and ended up going to the United States."
At that time, rumors circulated about Ricky Kim's advance into Hollywood. In fact, Ricky Kim announced in 2016 that he would leave SBS's "Oh My Baby," in which he was appearing with his family, stating that "Ricky Kim is leaving 'Oh My Baby' for the time being due to filming a Hollywood movie."
In relation to this, Ricky Kim recalled, "There was a proposal for a small movie. Many people anticipated my advance into Hollywood, but in reality, I felt the pressure of sin and saw a future where I could no longer live like this. When a project proposal came in, I thought, 'Great, if I hold onto this and talk about it, wouldn’t it be nice?' wearing a mask in front of people. My wife must have had a really hard time."
Meanwhile, Ricky Kim married musical actress Ryu Seung-joo in 2009 and has three children.
