"If you ask, keep your mouth shut!" Ahn Hyun-mo and Lee Ji-hye expressed anger and shed tears over the Chuan Mountain middle school girl group sexual assault case.
On the 25th (Tuesday) at 9:50 p.m., KBS 2TV's "Smoking Gun" will spotlight the 'Chuan Mountain middle school girl group sexual assault case,' in which about 22 perpetrators were involved and the determination of the detective who saved the middle school girl.
In June 2016, shocking news was reported. It was revealed that two middle school girls were sexually assaulted by nearby male high school students around September 2011, five years prior, at Chuan Mountain located in Dobong District, Seoul. The number of male students identified as perpetrators reached a staggering 22, but what exactly happened that day?
In 2012, while investigating another sexual violence case, Detective Kim Jang-su unexpectedly overheard a conversation among the students he was interrogating, revealing that a similar sexual assault had occurred at Chuan Mountain in 2011. To verify the facts, Detective Kim searched for the victims and, after a difficult search, was met with great shock. The victim’s condition was worse than expected. The victim had suffered for a year, unable to attend school and hardly able to eat, refusing to cooperate with the investigation by not even opening the door. However, after four years of persistent efforts to reach the victim, he finally heard a shocking statement from her in January 2016: she had been "sexually assaulted by a group" of male high school students nearby.
Five years had passed since the incident occurred, yet there were no direct evidence and the details of the victim's memories were vague. Moreover, the victim remained enveloped in fear due to concerns about retaliation from the perpetrators, making the investigation challenging. However, after relentless investigation, the horrific reality began to gradually surface. Ahn Hyun-mo expressed his anger, questioning how the perpetrators, a total of 22, could collectively be so cruel to torment the girls, while Lee Ji-hye wept, lamenting, "It’s heartbreaking to think how much suffering a young girl, barely a middle schooler, went through alone."
The court was also astonished by the Chuan Mountain group sexual assault case. We will hear the behind-the-scenes story of how the perpetrator was apprehended from Kim Jang-su, Head of Team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Criminal Investigation Unit. We will also analyze the psychology of the perpetrators with Jeong Yeon-kyung, a specialist in mental health.
