Singer Ailee said she wants to relinquish the title of "ex-boyfriend's breakup song" singer.
Ailee appeared on KBS Cool FM's "Oh My Girl Hyojeong's Volume Up" broadcast on the 24th, explaining the title track "MMI" from her new mini-album "Memoir" by stating, "Me, Myself and I carries the message that loving myself is more important than any other love," and added, "I wanted to create a song that allows me to love myself." Ailee noted, "I want to lay down the title of expert on ex-boyfriend breakup songs and become a guardian of self-esteem."
That day, Ailee shared behind-the-scenes stories from the recording process, saying, "Actually, it wasn't my song. Composer Pidok played it and asked, 'How about a song like this?' and I said, 'I'm going to go in and record this now,' and I guided it in about 15 to 20 minutes," adding, "I was really grateful that it was pop R&B, which I love, and I felt excited to show my unique music."
Regarding her collaboration with producer Pidok, she mentioned, "We recorded at HYBE, and I experienced going into a recording studio while having my ID checked for the first time. Due to security, they even covered my phone camera with stickers. It was so much fun," and added, "It felt like doing an incredible project."
Ailee expressed her hopes for the "Memoir" album by saying, "I wanted it to be an album that brings comfort. These are songs you can easily listen to anytime—whether when driving, cleaning, or even when you wake up in the morning, they are all easy listening tracks."
Finally, she added, "After doing music for a long time, there are times when what started as something I loved feels like work, and I sometimes feel like I've lost the joy." She continued, "I was very happy and joyful working on this album." That day, Ailee performed her new song "MMI" live and shared stories about other tracks, including "Illusion" and "Meaning." She also communicated with listeners by answering fans' questions in real-time.
Ailee's new song "MMI" is a hip-hop R&B track based on a Miami beat. It conveys a joyful and witty story focused entirely on herself, featuring a catchy melody blended with a bouncy rhythm and Ailee's refreshing vocals that maximize the sense of coolness. The song radiates Ailee's confidence and vibrant energy, showing an even hipper charm.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed on the 25th that Ailee and actor-turned-businessman Choi Si-hoon are already legally married.
Ailee and Choi Si-hoon will hold their wedding on April 20 following about a year of dating. Choi Si-hoon rose to fame by appearing in the Netflix original variety show "Solo Hell" and subsequently engaged in acting projects. He is currently focusing on his F&B business and MCN ventures.
