In SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama "Haunted Palace," the tumultuous relationship between Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon's first love and rivalry is foreshadowed as a still shot capturing their extreme emotional contrasts has been released, heightening expectations.
In April, as a follow-up to "Buried Hearts," SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama "Haunted Palace" (written by Yoon Soo-jung and directed by Yoon Sung-sik) is a fantasy romantic comedy that portrays the fate of the shaman Yeori rejecting her destiny and the Imugi Gang-cheol trapped in the body of her first love Yoon-gap, encountering the vengeful eight-legged demon that harbors resentment against the royal family, leading to a tangle of body and soul. Director Yoon Sung-sik, known for his works such as "Mr. Queen," "Lee Soon Shin is the Best," and "Bridal Mask," collaborates with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who penned dramas like "The King's Face" and "Cheer Up!" The fresh and charming combination of Yook Sung-jae (as Yoon-gap/Gang-cheol), Kim Ji-yeon (as Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (as Lee Jeong) is garnering attention.
Yook Sung-jae plays the kindhearted and intelligent young nobleman Yoon-gap, who is possessed by the wicked Imugi "Gang-cheol," showcasing an extraordinary charisma. Kim Ji-yeon portrays Yeori, the granddaughter of a famous shaman with remarkable spiritual abilities, who rejects her fate as a medium and lives as an independent and warm-hearted craftsman of glasses.
Meanwhile, a still shot revealing the remarkable fate of Yoon-gap and Yeori has been released, drawing attention. The released still shows Yoon-gap and Yeori exchanging warm glances at a street corner. Yoon-gap, dressed in a lavender robe and casting a kind gaze, evokes a sense of excitement, while Yeori's bright smile reflects the thrill of first love.
On the other hand, the stills that follow reveal a strange shift in the atmosphere between the two, contrasting sharply with their previous interactions, as Gang-cheol is now present in Yoon-gap's body. Gang-cheol, possessing Yoon-gap, displays mischievous expressions and playful eyes, revealing a youthful delinquent charm that was absent before. The sweet thrill disappears, and the chemistry between them ignites anger, resulting in sparks flying even with just a gaze. Notably, a scene is captured where a frustrated Yeori attempts a desperate silencing of Gang-cheol, adding humor to the mix. However, in the midst of their bickering, the sight of Gang-cheol and Yeori closely sticking together arouses a sense of warmth, stirring anticipation for the budding romance they will create together.
Regarding this, the "Haunted Palace" team noted, "Since Yook Sung-jae plays dual roles, the characters 'Gang-cheol' and 'Yoon-gap' will form different relationships with Kim Ji-yeon, creating a multifaceted romantic narrative. This unprecedented romance that oscillates between youthful excitement and rivalry has been perfectly executed by Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon, both of the same age. Comparing the two couples, who look identical but possess entirely different relationships, will provide another layer of enjoyment for viewers of 'Haunted Palace.'"
Meanwhile, the drama kingdom SBS's only fantasy period romantic comedy, the new Friday-Saturday drama "Haunted Palace," is set to premiere in April 2025.
